In San Marino, just a lot of different places to visit. Many of them are somehow connected with the Middle Ages, and therefore incredibly popular with tourists. However, do not fixate on this period, because in our time, too, creating masterpieces. One of them is the Monastery of the Order of Clariss.

A bit of history

The famous monastic order of Clariss appeared in the distant thirteenth century and was founded by Saint Clara. It is exclusively a women's organization that exists to this day.

Service is based on prayer, penance and humility. Most of the monasteries of the Order of St. Clare are reclusive. Nuns communicate with "ordinary" people only through lattices, which are a symbol of the barrier between the life of nuns and all worldly.

The monastery of the Order of Clariss in San Marino was built between 1969 and 1971. It is located in the central region of the republic. Funds for the construction of the monastery were transferred in the form of donations. The government of the country and Bishop Constantin Bonelli rendered significant assistance. In 1971, seventeen nuns left an ancient building built in 1565 to move to the new monastery of the Order of Clariss.

On the top floor of the monastery is a room for prayer activities - oratorio. Below - 12 cells, each of which has access to a private garden. A little further away is the building for visitors.

All the buildings belonging to the monastery have glass facades and very harmoniously fit into the landscape. The complete completed architectural integrity will finally be achieved after finishing the landscape design of the architect Michel Corazh.
