"The Mountain of Joy" or the Kirir National Park is one of the largest and most picturesque parks in the kingdom, along with Bokor and Virače Park . In addition, it is the first national park of the state of Cambodia . The park is located at an altitude of about seven hundred meters above sea level and is a unique coniferous forest in which countless different animals, birds, and plants live.
In the National Park Kirir seek to get tourists from different parts of the world to enjoy the unique nature, see the magnificent waterfalls. Excellent river rafting and boat excursions to local lakes are organized. The park is located in close proximity to the capital of the kingdom and among other things it can boast of a variety of foot, water, horse routes, which so attract the inhabitants of megacities.
A bit of geography
The province of Kampongspa became the place where the park was divided by Kirir. The area of the park is huge and is about 350,000 hectares of land, on which there are more flat and extended hills, the height of the highest is 700 meters. In the park of Kirir pine and other representatives of the ancient flora of this region grow, which are unlikely to be found somewhere on the plain. Here the rivers originate, which, breaking off from the height, give rise to the most beautiful waterfalls. And of course, in these unique places there live rare animals, most of which do not occur in other parts of the world.
What is interesting in Kirir Park?
A walk through the park of Kirir is best started from the Visitors Center. It houses a small museum that is able to fully show the uniqueness of the park, to tell about its history and inhabitants. In the museum you can take cards, which are marked on foot routes. Lovers of exotics waiting for a walk on a wagon in which oxen are harnessed. You can also book a boat trip. Be sure to visit the local landmark - Chambok Waterfall, whose height is 40 meters.
In the center of the park you will see the ruins of one of the residences of the king, once the majestic mansion of the monarch Sihanouk. In addition, the territory of Kiriroma is adorned with Buddhist temples, which are incomparable in beauty to any similar structure of the peninsula.
Kirir National Park attracts the attention of tourists also because its research is very exciting and for this purpose both walks and walks in any mode of transport are suitable. The organizers of the park developed more than 10 various walking routes of varying length and complexity. Feel the spirit of the past era will help walk the Cambodian cart. Small lakes of the park are equipped with boat stations and wait for visitors. It is also possible to climb to the summit of Phnomadchitvit, the End of the World mountain, which offers spectacular views of the local landscapes.
How to get there?
You can reach the park without any problems on your rented car (following the national road number 4) or by taxi. Public transport to the park does not go.
