How is an abortion done?

Pregnancy is a special period in the life of every woman, which is marked by the birth of a new life in her womb. For many, this is the occasion for happiness and joy, but there are situations when, due to medical indications or your own unwillingness to have a child, a woman decides to have an abortion.

Abortion is an artificial termination of pregnancy, which is contrary to the natural course of the process of bearing a child, and therefore damages a woman's health. And the scale of the consequences determines how abortion is done. Depending on the period of pregnancy, there are several options for its interruption. Among them, surgical abortion, vacuum and medication. The latter two are less traumatic according to WHO estimates.

How is medical abortion?

Medical abortion is a method of abortion, which is carried out with the help of medications for up to 9 weeks. These drugs are prescribed by a doctor, and their sale is made in pharmacies strictly according to the prescription. The basis of how medical abortion is undergoing is the action of these medications. In essence, they cause a hormonal attack in the body of a woman, which is aimed at expelling the fetus and provoking a miscarriage.

How do mini (vacuum) abortion?

Vacuum abortion is the abortion of a pregnancy for up to 20 days from the day of the delay of the pregnancy. Pregnancy, which in terms exceed the specified limit, are not interrupted in this way. Such restrictions are effective, as with each extra day the fruit becomes larger, which means it will be more difficult to extract. The longer the pregnancy, the more traumatic for a woman will be her interruption.

The very name of the "vacuum" speaks about how mini-abortion is done. A woman under local anesthesia is made to vacuum the aspirate of the fetal egg from the uterine cavity with a special device. The principle of how mini-abortion is done resembles that of a pump, and takes only a few minutes. In the course of this procedure, the fetus fetus ruptures, and under pressure, it slips out of the uterus along the tube.

How is a surgical abortion?

The surgical abortion has another unofficial name - "scraping". Usually this procedure is made to a woman under general anesthesia. The obstetrician-gynecologist with the help of a special instrument resembling an externally sharpened spoon, purges the uterus, scraping out the upper layer of the endometrium, together with which the embryo is destroyed and extracted.

Surgical abortion is the most traumatic method of abortion, and can lead to serious consequences. Since this procedure is performed by the doctor "to the touch," in its course, it is possible to accidentally puncture the uterine wall or incomplete removal of the remains of the embryo, which in turn is fraught with the discovery of bleeding, inflammation and infection.

How did the abortion take place before?

100-200 years ago, women, who for one reason or another decided to interrupt the pregnancy, first turned to folk methods, among which was weight lifting (for example, bucket with water), as well as the use of decoction from herbs that stimulate uterine contraction. These techniques artificially provoked miscarriage. If the expected result was not achieved with the help of these funds, then a midwife was asked to interrupt the pregnancy. Her activity was reduced to a puncture with the help of a knitting needle of the bladder, which led to abortion. Often, as a result of these manipulations, the woman's health was seriously damaged, which eventually led to infertility, and in some cases the pregnant woman simply died.

Of course, modern methods of abortion differ from how abortions were done before. Today this is a legalized and sufficiently safe procedure that is conducted in medical institutions. New methods of abortion in conditions of qualified medical care and good medical equipment make it possible to protect women from possible complications of this procedure.
