Herpetic keratitis

A simple herpes simplex virus of the first type can provoke not only rashes on the skin, blisters on the wings of the nose and lips, but also herpetic keratitis. This disease should be immediately started to treat, as it often causes irreversible changes in the cornea and conjunctiva of the eye, can lead to deterioration of visual acuity.

Symptoms of herpetic keratitis

At the beginning of the development of the pathology, the pain syndrome is practically absent, reddening of the mucous and protein of the eye, lacrimation, a decrease in the clarity of the perceived images, photophobia.

Further progress of keratitis is characterized by the appearance of small blisters on the cornea, which quickly burst and turn into ulcerous erosion. In the absence of therapy, the rashes penetrate deeper layers, the blood vessels grow into the cornea, and the sensitivity of the cornea grows. A rare complication of the disease is a deterioration in vision, and even a complete loss of it.

Treatment of herpetic keratitis of the eyes

Drawing up the scheme of the drug approach depends on the type of disease.

Superficial dendritic herpetic keratitis requires the following therapeutic measures:

  1. The administration of a solution of Kerecid, Stoxil, Herplex or Idoxiridine with a concentration of 0.1% to the affected organ up to 8 times a day.
  2. Mortification of Zovirax, Virolox or other ointment with acyclovir (3%) up to 5 times a day.
  3. Installation of alpha interferon (leukocyte), Interpok, Berafor, Reaferon course of 6 days.
  4. Use of Lycopida (immunomodulator).
  5. Intramuscular injections of B vitamins (B1, B2).
  6. Oral intake of vitamin A, C.

Instead of leukocyte interferon, fibroblast preparations can be used, for example, Fron, Poludan. You do not need to administer drops often - just twice a day.

Treatment of discoid herpetic keratitis (deep) involves more intensive therapy:

  1. Subconjunctival injections of alpha-interferon of leukocyte type or similar medicines, inducers. The activity of the substance should be at least 200 U / ml.
  2. Mortgage for the affected eyelid Virollex ointment, Zovirax or Acyclovir 4-5 times a day.
  3. Reception of immunomodulators , vitamins, intramuscular injections of group B.

During treatment, it is important to reduce the burden on the eyes, read less, watch TV and work at the computer, provide a soft light in the room where the patient is.
