History of the Camp Green Climbers Home

The study of local rocks began in 2010, when Volker and Isabelle Schöffl, along with a group of 17 people, began piercing the first mountaineering routes in Thakhek. And in 2011 the German family, Tanja and Uli Weidner, founded in these parts the first camping for climbers. It's been a while since then, but Thakhek has quickly gained popularity, and today there are more than 100 routes of varying complexity ranging from 4a to 8a + / 8b.

The camp for climbers Green Climbers Home over the years has also grown significantly to be able to accept all comers. In addition, now in the camp you can choose rooms and book them in advance, provide meals, hire equipment and, of course, escort along the routes.

What can I see in Green Climbers Home?

It is worth mentioning separately about the amazing place in the area, called the "roof". This is a huge ceiling with overhanging routes, which you will have to partially overcome in the hanging position on the vertical stalactite. This is an excellent workout for 3D climbing. In general, around the camp there are several dozens of routes with calcareous tuffs, overhanging edges and sharp, almost vertical ascents.

The founders and ideological inspirers of the alpinist camp continue to explore the surroundings and open up new climbing routes. The length of the existing routes averages from 12 to 40 m, and the level from 4 to 8c. The climbing season in Green Climbers Home lasts from October to the end of May.

Accommodation and meals in the mountaineering camp

In the climbing center Green Climbers Home there is a campsite located at the foot of the Pha Tam Cam area, which has cozy bungalows with hot showers, comfortable beds and electricity. It is better to reserve them in advance. You can also stay at the hostel, rent a tent on site or come with your own.

On the territory of the camp there is a restaurant "Kneebar", where you can order a comprehensive meal - breakfast, lunch and dinner - at reasonable prices. It is possible to take food with you in reusable dishes, as well as fill bottles with water (preferably with you).

Payment for services

You can pay for rent of equipment, accommodation, meals and other additional services in Green Climbers Home camp exclusively in cash. Be careful, because there are no ATMs nearby. For payment are accepted the US dollar, Thai baht, Lao bales and euro.

How to get there?

From the nearest town of Thakhek in Laos, you can reach the destination by bus (the distance from the city to the mountaineering camp is 12 km, the cost of the trip is about 10 thousand kip) or on the rickshaw (80 thousand kip).

You can also get to the camp of Green Climbers Home from neighboring countries - Thailand or Vietnam. From Bangkok from the station Mo Chit 2 (another name - Chatuchak) there are night buses to the border with Laos of Nakhon Phanom, then take the bus to Thakhek, and then to the climbing center. From Vietnam's Hanoi there is a direct bus route to Thakhek.
