Green amniotic fluid

The amniotic fluid surrounds the baby throughout pregnancy. They guarded it, softened shocks and earthly gravity, maintained the optimum temperature. From the moment of their departure begins the birth of a child.

The process of allocation of amniotic fluid before birth generates a slightly different for all. At someone they go unexpectedly right on the street or at night in bed, someone has to pierce the bladder artificially. But regardless of this, the doctor, first of all, draws attention to the color of amniotic fluid - this is an important diagnostic indicator in the process of childbirth.

Ideally, the water should be clear or slightly pinkish without a special smell. But sometimes the doctor pays attention to the woman giving birth to the fact that her amniotic fluid is green. With what it is connected and what threatens - these are the main issues of interest to young expectant mothers. Let's try to figure it out together.

Green amniotic fluid - causes

The most basic cause of amniotic fluid in green is pregnancy. With increasing duration of the placenta gradually aging, its functionality is weakened, it no longer copes with the timely supply of oxygen and water purification. As a result, the fetus lacks oxygen, hypoxia occurs. And this, in turn, leads to reflective contractions of the intestine and the release of meconium (original feces) into the surrounding waters, which are also colored green.

In some cases, the water turns green due to the fact that the mother during the period of pregnancy was ill with an infectious disease. It can be a sexual infection, SARS and colds, diseases of the genitourinary system and so on.

A greenish shade of water is also observed when the child himself has a rare genetic disease. Fortunately, this does not happen often.

And the last thing is that the waters can turn green if the labor is protracted and complex. They represent a huge stress for the baby, which in the process can allocate meconium and thereby color the water in green.

Consequences of green amniotic fluid

Regardless of why the amniotic fluid is green, the doctor must do everything to prevent the baby from swallowing toxins. If after the departure of the green waters the birth does not begin, the woman is urgently given a cesarean section, since the child is clearly suffering from oxygen starvation.

If the bowel movement occurred during labor, it is practically not dangerous, because the baby did not stay long in this environment.
