How is the mangosteen?

Already can not wait to try? Wait a bit, first we learn from real gourmets how to eat mangosteen. First you need to know how to choose a ripe, but not overripe fruit. A mature mangosteen should be almost burgundy, very dense to the touch and necessarily large. After all, the thickness of the peel from the size does not depend, so in small fruits, the edible part is very small. The most delicious these fruits are from the beginning of May to the end of September.

Now go directly to the process of peeling. We make a shallow incision from the cut through the lower part of the fruit, and one more in the same way. We break the peel and see what we will eat - white lobules with seeds attached to them (seeds should not be eaten). Bon Appetit!

If you want to treat friends brought from a holiday as a curiosity, keep in mind that the period of storage of this fruit is very limited. Even under ideal conditions, in a dry and dark room, it will be just over three weeks after it is ripped off.

Grow Mangosteen

And why not grow an exotic mangosteen at home? The idea is not easy, but quite feasible. Please note that the seeds of this plant do not completely survive germination. Since the removal of the fruit from the tree should not take more than 4-5 weeks. If the seeds have been properly packaged (wrapped a little with moss or fiber soaked), then the storage period increases to 8-10 weeks. At the bottom of the pot, we pour the drainage, then a mixture of light soil and peat. Further to a depth of 1-2 centimeters we plant a seed, a little moisten the soil and cover the container with a film. Growing mangosteen at home greatly complicates the poorly developed root system, so many prospectors fail. You can see the shoots only on week 5-6. After you learned how to plant a mangosteen tree, have patience, because up to 25-30 centimeters it will grow only after two years. Well, until the time when you first taste the fruit of the mangosteen tree, at least ten years! The mangosteen loves high humidity, but the soil in the pot must be wet, not wet. Watering should be frequent, but not too abundant. The optimum temperature regime is 28-30 degrees.
