Expressiveness

Needless to say, the Russian language is multi-valued. Take, for example, the notion of expressiveness: in psychology, it means one thing, in literature and fine arts is somewhat different, and if you say "expressiveness and penetrance", then these concepts will go to the field of genetics. And if so, then it is our duty to consider this phenomenon comprehensively, and to give the concept of expressiveness the most complete definition.

Expressivity and penetrance

In genetics, expressiveness means the degree of phenotypic manifestation of an allele (different forms of the same gene). For example, the degree of manifestation of the allele of human blood groups is 100%, that is, expressiveness is constant, but the alleles responsible for eye color have variable expressiveness.

Penetration indicates the likelihood of a phenotypic manifestation, if there is an appropriate gene. That is, a healthy person, whose parents have any hereditary disease, can get a mutant non-developing gene and transfer it to their offspring.

Expressivity in Psychology

For the purposes of psychology, the concept of expressiveness is given different definitions that have a broader or narrower scope. So, expressiveness can mean the same kind of expression of feelings, characteristic for one person, but the phenomenon can be considered from the point of view of the "maximum being" of a person, which is achieved with the help of all available means. Also, expressiveness can be seen as a state that includes expressive movements that denote certain emotions - anger, joy, disgust, surprise, etc.

In psychology, expressiveness is seen as a wide range of means (cosmetics, clothing, jewelry, speech style, etc.) through which a person expresses himself, that is, he shows his own characteristics to an outside observer. The task of the psychology of expressive behavior is to identify and study the patterns of the manifestation of characteristic features of the personality on non-verbal grounds. Identification, the so-called expressive codes, on which you can tell about the actual conditions of a person, the level of his claims, lifestyle, value orientations, etc. The main goal of the psychology of expressive behavior is the answer to the question of how valuable expressive movements of a person are in the diagnostic-regulatory sense.

Emotional expressiveness in art

In art expressiveness is understood as a bright emotional coloring of a work. Expressiveness manifests itself in various forms of art - literature, painting, music, theater. This phenomenon is most interesting in the literature, since here it is much more difficult than, for example, in painting, to deliver emotions to the reader. The visual impact is always brighter than the word written on a piece of paper. Therefore, there is a special group, the so-called emotional vocabulary, which allows not only to understand the meaning of the written, but also to feel its emotional coloring. Examples of literary expressiveness can be words such as "broulet", "hollow", "sycophant". Emotional coloring is also indicated by the use of metaphors and words with diminutive suffixes. Through the use of such techniques, the text can be jocular, solemn, affectionate, angry and many other tones.

As we see, expressiveness is a complex and at the same time interesting phenomenon, because it affects all aspects of our life and helps in the self-expression of the individual. The main thing is not to get carried away by overexposure to showing your own personality, as this will be a completely different story.
