Historical background

Official data, confirming where the grave of Eve is, is still not there. Despite this, all believers arriving in Saudi Arabia are in a hurry to visit the tomb of the foremother. Many of them are trying to find evidence proving the truth of the necropolis.

According to the legends, after her fall, Eve came to Jeddah (now the administrative district of Mecca ), and Adam was in Sri Lanka. They lived a long life, and the first woman of the planet died at the age of 940 years. About her grave mentioned in different centuries, some records can be seen so far. The most famous authors are:

  1. Ibn al-Faqih al-Hamadani is an Arab and Persian geographer who lived at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries. He reported on the 2 prophets who mentioned the tomb of Havva. This information was discovered by a Saudi researcher named Khatun Ajwad al-Fasi.
  2. Ibn Jubayr is a wandering Arabic poet who made a pilgrimage to Jeddah in the 12th century. He claimed that there is a place that has a tall and ancient dome. This is the refuge of Eve, located on the road to Mecca.
  3. Angelo Peshet is a traveler, a writer and a politician. He wrote a book about Jeddah, where he mentions the grave of Eve, referring to the earliest documentary information.
  4. Ibn Hallikan and Ibn al-Mujavir - describe the exact location of the tomb of Havva. They lived in the XIII century.
  5. Shakirzyan Ishaev is a member of the Russian consulate. In 1895, he described in detail the grave of Eve.

Historians and researchers, prophets and priests in different centuries have mentioned the tomb. They described the shrine and claimed that it was in Jeddah. In this regard, the world view converges to the fact that the first woman is based in Saudi Arabia.

The fate of the tomb

Eve's grave was in a special room, the length of which exceeded 130 m. In 1857, Richard Francis Burton published the tomb plan in the Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage to El Medinah and Meccah. The shrine was tried several times to demolish it, but this caused public outcry.

One of these figures was the Amir of the Hijaz and the sheriff of Mecca named Aun ar-Rafik Pasha. After he was not allowed to destroy the grave, he uttered a famous phrase that went down in history: "Do you really think that our mother was so high? If this is an international stupidity, then let the tomb stand. "

In 1928, Prince Faisal (governor of the Hijaz) issued a decree on the destruction of the burial. It was based on the fact that it engendered religious superstition, since Muslim pilgrims violated Islamic traditions after the Hajj and prayed near the tomb. In 1975 the grave was concreted.

Description of the shrine before the destruction

Eve's grave had a length of 42 m. At her head was a marble slab with Arabic inscriptions. Near the necropolis grew a date palm, creating a shadow. Over the central part of the tomb were 2 chapels, which were united by a common roof. One crypt was used for sermons, and the second - for worship.

The walls of the sanctuaries were covered with a multitude of names. On the outside there was a special container, hollowed out in a large stone. There was always water in it, designed for Eve's horse. Near the tomb there were always beggars with children who begged for alms.
