When tourists first hear such a name, their minds are concerned with just one question: where in Switzerland is Switzerland. It sounds really amusing, but in fact it is a wonderfully beautiful national park , which, thanks to its types and landscape, has such an unusual name as Czech Switzerland.

What is interesting for a tourist?

Czech Switzerland is part of the Elbe Sand Mountain, which belongs to the Czech Republic. What is characteristic, in Germany this area is called Saxon Switzerland. The territory of the park has almost 80 square meters. m, and since 2000 it officially acquired the status of a reserve. On the map of the country, Czech Switzerland is located in the north-western region, at the headwaters of the Elbe River.

His name was given to the reserve by two Swiss artists, who, in their spare time, went to these places and worked, inspired by the local beauty. Masters of the brush did not even want to return home, arguing that they found their Switzerland in the Czech Republic.

Sights of the Reserve Czech Switzerland

In the park there are a number of interesting and enchanting places, the creator of which was nature itself. So, what to see and where to make a photo for memory in the National Park Czech Switzerland:

  1. Decinsky Snezhnik is the highest point. The mountain is difficult to name, since it only reaches 723 m in height.
  2. Panska rock is a massive cliff formed over a million years ago due to the invasion of incandescent magma into the crust. It seems that he, like a designer, is made up of polygonal cubes of basalt. The height of the rock reaches 12 m, and was discovered in the XIX century when developing a quarry.
  3. The Kamenice Gorge . There is more than one tour route for tourists who visit Czech Switzerland both independently and in the number of excursions from Prague and other cities. It is believed that the canyon of the Kamenice River is one of the most picturesque places of the reserve. A special excitement among tourists is caused by a wooden suspension bridge across the gorge. The excursion can be diversified by walking along the river on a flat-bottomed boat and going to the village of Grzensko, which is one of the entry points to the territory of Czech Switzerland.
  4. The Prachtit Gate is a kind of symbol of the reserve - their image is crowned with the main part of booklets and advertising brochures about the park. The height of the gate is 21 m, and the width of the span is 26 m. This is the largest non-manual creation in the whole of Europe. In this case, the thickness of the rock in some places reaches 3 m.
  5. Castle Falcon's nest is fashioned in the rock of the Pravcitski Gate. Its construction dates back to the end of the XIX century. On the second floor of the building there is a museum of Czech Switzerland.
  6. Dol mill is a recognized cultural monument and is protected by the state. It was built in 1515. Today the structure is a fragment of a water mill, next to which is a picturesque bridge. In general, this composition is the first in the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire reinforced concrete structure.

This list does not limit the number of prominent places in the reserve. There are a lot of sightseeing places where tourists have an excellent opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Czech Switzerland both in the warm season and in the autumn. One of these places is a stone tower erected on the highest point of the reserve.

Many tourists doubt whether it is worthwhile to visit Czech Switzerland in the winter. There is no unequivocal answer: the snow-capped peaks of the hills are fascinating with their winter fairy tale, but if the weather is in a bad mood, then the fog will not let you see the surrounding landscapes.

How to get to the reserve?

You can get to Czech Switzerland either by car or by excursion from Prague . For this, it is necessary to proceed along the E55 and road No. 62. The journey takes about 2 hours.
