Corset with scoliosis

One of the conservative methods of treatment for scoliosis , quite effective, is wearing special orthopedic devices - corsets.

Supporting corsets for scoliosis

Supporting corsets can not repair existing defects, but due to the removal of tension in the muscles and correction of posture prevent further progress of the disease. The use of such corsets is shown at the beginning of the development of the disease, at 1, sometimes at the beginning of 2 degrees of scoliosis, as a preventive measure, and as an element of maintenance therapy for diseases of the musculoskeletal system:

  1. Reclaimers. Devices in the form of elastic bands, worn on the upper half of the chest. Used to combat stoop and correction of posture. Wear up to 4 hours a day, while working at a computer, writing desk, etc.
  2. Thoracic posture corrector. It is a bandage with a corset belt and a semi-rigid part for fixing the thoracic spine. It is used for prophylaxis and as a supportive therapy for scoliosis before the beginning of the 2nd degree inclusive.
  3. Chest lumbar correctors of posture. They consist of a reclinator, a corset belt and a semi-rigid part with stiffening ribs for the back. This corset is used for scoliosis 1 and 2 degrees in patients of any age and should be manufactured by individual measures.

Correcting corsets for scoliosis

Correcting corsets are designed to prevent further progression of scoliosis, as well as correction of existing deformities of the spinal column. Corsets that are worn in scoliosis are rigid structures to maintain a straightened back portion in the correct position and exert a back pressure on the deformation area:

  1. Corset Chenot. Corset made of special plastic. It is made on individual casts, which allows to provide maximum impact on the convex points of the spine. This corset is considered the most effective model in the treatment of scoliosis 1 degree (with a bend angle of up to 15 °).
  2. Lyons corset (Brace). Corset medium degree of rigidity with adjustable height, which allows using it for scoliosis of both thoracic and lumbar spine.
  3. Boston corset. The structure of high rigidity of plastic, used for scoliosis of the lumbar region of 2 and 3 degrees.
  4. Milwaukee corset. Metal-plastic construction, manufactured according to individual measurements, depending on the degree of scoliosis, with a saddle for fixation in the pelvic region and metal fixatives for the occiput and chin. This corset is considered the most uncomfortable in wearing a model, but it can be used for curving any part of the spine.

At a scoliosis of 4 degrees the corset as a therapeutic measure is ineffective, and surgical intervention is required. Of the corsets, it is possible to use semi-rigid structures, performed according to individual measures, as maintenance therapy.
