Clearing blockages

No house can do without water and sewerage. And each of us at least once faced such an unpleasant phenomenon as blockages in the pipes, when the water from the bath or the bowl leaves very slowly, or even stagnates. Sewer pipes are mostly clogged due to the ingress of undigested soap, sebum, dirt or hair into them. Of course, the ideal way to get rid of blockages is to call the plumber, but you can try and manage yourself. There are a lot of ways to independently eliminate the blockage, and which one is better to choose, we will consider further.

How is sewerage arranged?

To remove the obstructions was given to you easily and quickly, it is necessary to understand how the sewage system is arranged. What we see in our bathroom is plumbing fixtures (sink, toilet bowl or bathtub). Each plumbing fixture has a drain hole, behind which a water trap (siphon) is necessarily present. It has the appearance of a corrugated curved tube, which is installed to create a water seal. It will prevent the smell from penetrating into the apartment from the sewer system. Further, this tube is connected to a branch pipe, which is connected to the main sewer pipe. What happens next, we will not extend this article.

Also remember that clogs most often occur in the places of turns, bends and connections of sewer pipes, less often - on straight sections of the pipe.

How to clear the blockage?

To eliminate uncomplicated blockages you will be treated with a special tool against pipe blockages. The choice of such means is great enough, they can be found in any store. The principle of the action of these means is the dissolution of the clog due to its chemical property. It is necessary to pour the product into the drain hole, to withstand a certain time (according to the instructions for use) and rinse with plenty of water. This method of cleaning can also be used to prevent (prevent) the formation of blockages.

It happens that clogs form in the siphon itself. Then this blockage can be removed by simply unscrewing the siphon and pulling the accumulated garbage out of it. In this case, do not forget to put a bowl or a bucket under the sink in advance. During the removal of the siphon, the water left in the sink will be collected in the sink.

Another common and well-known method of eliminating blockages is the use of a plunger. Usually it is a wooden handle with a rubber cap on the end. During the cleaning of the clog, it is necessary to tightly press the rubber part of the plunger into the drain hole and turn the handle several times up and down. These actions create pressure drops in the sewer pipe, which destroy the cork created by the clogging. Do not forget that before you clean the blockage in the bathroom, you must first close the hole overflow in the upper part of the bathroom, otherwise everything that you push into the drain hole will return to you through the opening for overflow.

For complex obstructions, which mainly occur in old metal pipes, it is good to have a plumbing cable handy. It is a wire wound in a spiral, at one end of which is a handle, and on the other - a spiral drill. It is necessary to push the end with the drill into the drain hole, constantly pushing it forward, and simultaneously twist the handle. With this method it is better to work together. After you push through the blockage, rotate the handle of the cable several times in the opposite direction to remove it.
