Circumcision in boys is called surgical removal of the extreme fold of the skin, which covers the head of the penis. In medicine, this operation is called circumcision. Separate complete circumcision, after which the glans penis will be fully open, or partial, at which the head becomes partially open.
Why do children circumcise?
Most of the parents of the countries of the east make circumcision due to religious considerations, supporting the centuries-old traditions of their ancestors. For Muslims and Jews, this procedure is a symbol of a sacred union with God on the body. By circumcising the foreskin, a person renounces love for the material and approaches love for the spiritual and the Divine. However, recently in some other countries of the world, circumcision of the son has become a fashionable event, which in the future can facilitate hygienic procedures for caring for the sexual organ. In the opinion of the adherents of circumcision and the data obtained from various sources, circumcision of the prepuce may be of benefit to the boy in the future:
- reduces the risk of developing infections of the urinary tract (cystitis, pyelonephritis);
- reduces the risk of sexually transmitted diseases (herpes, genital warts, etc.);
- reduces the risk of developing penile cancer.
In addition, circumcision of boys is an effective treatment of pathologies such as phimosis (the inability to fully open the head of the penis) and paraphimosis (infringement of the head of the penis with flesh) to avoid complications in the form of necrosis (necrosis of the head of the penis). Sometimes a circumcision operation is shown to boys with painful urination with undiagnosed abnormalities.
Circumcision in phimosis
Under the foreskin is a special bag (space) in which the separated glands accumulate, the remains of urine and seminal fluid, so that bacteria and microorganisms can multiply there. In the case when the foreskin closes the glans penis, this space becomes a breeding ground for infections that cause serious urological problems. Phimosis in the advanced stage can provoke the following diseases: urinary incontinence, urethritis. Circumcision with phimosis removes inflammation and prevents the squeezing of the urinary canal.
At what age do circumcision?
Circumcision on religious prejudices is usually carried out in infancy (in the first 10 days of life) or up to 3 years. In surgical practice, the procedure for circumcision is not recommended to be performed until the age of three, because not all boys have a full head of the penis.
How are circumcision done to boys?
The operation is carried out in an outpatient setting and does not require any previous measures, except for a general blood and urine test. Boys up to 2 months of age the operation is performed without anesthesia, older children under general anesthesia. In the first two days after the procedure, moderate pain and discomfort can be observed, complete healing occurs after 2-3 days.
Where do circumcision?
Today, a circumcision operation can be done at any medical center. The success of the operation primarily depends on the experience of the surgeon, who will ensure that after the operation there are no complications:
- damage to the head of the penis or urethra;
- inflammation and swelling of the opening of the urethra;
- deformation of the penis and the appearance of scarring;
- development of infection.
The decision on whether to circumcise a child depends entirely on the parents for religious reasons, but in case of medical evidence, circumcision should become an obligatory procedure that will allow the penis to function normally.
