Cala Ratjada

Cala Ratjada, Cala Ratjada or Cala Ratjada (Mallorca) is a resort in the north-east of the island. The name translates as "Bay of Rays". Kala Ratjada is a youth resort, which is relatively inexpensive and provides visitors with the opportunity to have fun all night long. Previously, on the site of the resort town was a fishing village, which played an important role in the economy of the island - it was from here that the quickest way was to get to Menorca.

The resort is popular with German and French tourists. In summer there are many young people here, and from October to April it is also not empty - older people are resting here. You can get to it from the capital by a regular bus or taxi; in the latter case the trip will cost about 80 euros.

Beaches and harbor

The resort is famous for its beaches. The most beautiful among them is the Playa San Moll, the sand on which is shallow and white. The beach is relatively small: its length is 50 meters and its width is 45. It is well equipped. This beach is in the open space, so here it is quite windy. This beach in the "high" season is usually full of people. Other beaches are Cala-Gat, Cala-Aguilla (it is in the bird sanctuary), Cala-Maskid .

Cala de Sa Font is outside the resort; walk a bit far - just over three kilometers, but thanks to the extremely transparent water the beach is very popular among snorkelers, who here usually study the life of the local underwater world. Before this beach can be reached by a special tourist train (the cost of the trip is less than 4 euro, for children less than 2 euros). This train itself is a tourist attraction, so even if it is easy for you to walk such a distance - you still ride it.

The beaches on the other side are bordered by a pine forest. Due to the fact that the depth near the coast increases quite sharply, families with children rarely rest here. The total length of the coastline of the resort is one and a half kilometers.

Cala Ratjada is the second largest port of Mallorca. Previously, the lobster fishery reigned here - the lobster "factories", where these giant crayfish were kept before sale, is still in this area, though - now as historical monuments. From here you can go to Menorca - the ferry leaves daily at 9-15, and back arrives at 19-30. In this case, you should pay attention to the following nuance: if you buy a ticket "there and back" - it will cost 50 euros, if only "there" - at 80.

Along the whole embankment, as well as at many other resorts, there is a picturesque promenade with many cafes, restaurants and shops.

Active pastime

In addition to water sports, it is possible to actively spend time here, for example - to play golf in Capdeper (which is only 4 km away), tennis or horse riding - a special horse base is located on the northern outskirts of the town. As the resort is surrounded by pine-covered hills, hiking and cycling are very popular here. And many just enjoy climbing the coastal rocks.

Lighthouse

Far de Capdepera Lighthouse is one of the local attractions; it is located at a height of 76 meters above the sea. The lighthouse has been operating since 1861, and its range is 20 nautical miles. Ascending the spiral staircase of the lighthouse can cause slight dizziness, but the pleasure of its visit is not only for children, but also for adults - a beautiful panorama opens from the lighthouse, even Menorca is visible even in clear weather.

The Caves of Art

The complex of Arta Caves is located near the city. These are several halls of natural origin, one of which is the world's largest stalagmite, its length is 22 m. Special hiking trails are created between the halls, and the light-musical design solution allows you to fully enjoy all the natural beauties of the caves. They are open from October to May.

Sa Torre Cega

It is an estate named after the tower in its very heart; the title translates as "The Blind Tower". The tower was built in the XV century, it has no windows. The estate is located on one of the hills. The villa was built in 1900 by the order of the Spanish banker Juan March.

Castle Capdepera

Another attraction near the resort is the Castle of Capdepera , which is well preserved to the present day. The construction of the fortress began in 1300 on the site of the ancient Moorish fortification. Her job was to protect the island from pirates. After paying a few euros, you can walk around the castle, climb the roof of the Virgin de la Esperanza church, ring bells and visit the museum. The castle is opened for visits daily from 9-00, in winter - till 17-00, in winter - till 19-00.
