Can Picafort

Can Picafort (Mallorca) is the main resort of the Santa Margalida area, located on the east coast of the bay of Alcudia . The resort began with a simple fishing village - there lived fishermen who supplied fish to the inhabitants of Santa Margalida. The history of the settlement began around 1860, when the village was first mentioned in written sources. Back in the 60s of the 20th century there lived just over 200 people, and already in the 70s the former village became a resort capable of simultaneously hosting up to 8 thousand people. Today, only a small harbor (about 465 berths) reminds of the former fishing village, from which you can go on a boat trip several times a day on a small boat. Almost all berths of the harbor are equipped with electricity, water supply. There is also a slipway and a large Travelodge with a lifting capacity of 20 tons.

It is from the harbor that a wide promenade begins along the coast, and ends at the San Baulo area; the length of the promenade is 2 km. The promenade is just strewn with shops, cafes and restaurants.

Despite the fact that the resort is a favorite destination for tourists from Germany, you can taste a wide variety of food in Can Picafort: Spanish, and favorite dishes of German tourists, and traditional dishes of Majorcan cuisine.

Popular restaurants are Rapha's La Terracita, Restaurante Vinicius, Pizzeria Trattoria Mamma Mia, La Pinta, Doner King Can Picafort, Don Denis, Mandilego and others. Some restaurants provide a meal delivery service.

It is worth to taste a traditional drink of tapas (aperitif) or a cocktail of almond milk orchata, and also - sweet rolls of enamayadas and amazing almond ice cream.

There are no problems for holidaymakers in Can Picafort and where to go at night: despite the fact that to the noisy Magaluf or Arenal the resort is far away, but here there are night clubs and restaurants.

Today, Kan-Picafort is a very popular resort with a well-developed infrastructure, which is chosen by both married couples with children and lovers of outdoor activities.

In Can Picafort, as in other Majorcan resorts , the weather allows you to relax all year round. There is no negative temperature here. In October and November, the temperature of the air is about + 23 ° C in the daytime and falls to +14 ° C at night. This time is perfect for those who do not tolerate the heat, but wants to stretch the summer longer. During the winter months, it is also quite comfortable here (for example, the coldest in the resort in January is the temperature drops to + 14 ° C), especially if you stay at a hotel with an indoor pool. In the spring, the temperature rises to + 21-22 °, but the sea is not warming up enough so that you can swim in it.

Rest on the beach

Due to the abundance of tourists in Can Picafort, the municipal beach is often crowded. However, there is no need to be upset: there is a place for everyone, because from Kan-Picafort to Alcudia - 8 kilometers of beautiful beaches, and another 6 kilometers of not inferior beaches in the direction of the resort of Son Serra de Marina.

The two best beaches in Can Picafort are located just near San Baulo, but the difference from the other beaches of the resort is not between "good" and "better", but between "excellent" and "simply excellent."

Santa Margalida: from the depths of the centuries to our days

The city of Santa Margalida should be visited even by those who do not live nearby: this city is just a "gathering" of historical sights. The town is located almost next to the resort, only 10 km into the interior of the island.

Here only official archaeological excavations - more than a hundred and fifty! Many of them have survived since the pre-Roman times. One of the main attractions is the Cemetery of the Phoenicians - Son Real Necropolis.

In Santa Margalida it is interesting to visit the aloe plant, where you can taste the flowers of this plant in jam and try a unique liqueur or tincture on the flowers of aloe.

In the center of the city there is a market square where you can buy products of local artisans, and see a 13th century church made in two architectural styles.

Very interesting is the excursion to the vineyards and winery. The tour includes wine tasting, made according to the old traditional technology.

Where else can you go?

But the historical and other interesting places of Santa Margalida are not the only attractions in Can Picafort: you can go to Finca of Son Real - a former private possession just east of Son Baulo. It occupies about 400 hectares of land and is open for free visiting. Here you can see historical monuments, taliots - megaliths of the Bronze Age, to inspect the landlord's house and adjoining buildings. On the territory of the estate you can walk, ride a bicycle or even on horseback - for this a special route is laid.

Not far from Son Baulo there is also a nature reserve, not very big, but interesting enough: here are the Algerian hedgehogs, garden sony, caresses, rabbits and rabbits, and also red pheasants.

Another bright sight of Kan-Pikafort are two "military buildings" - facilities for clarifying the conduct of fire by Spanish submariners. Outwardly, these structures are more reminiscent of the structures of the ancient Egyptians.

How to get to the resort?

The easiest way is to take a taxi, but the cost of the trip will be about 70-75 euros. The cheapest one is to take the bus: first take the No. 1 flight from the airport to Palma de Mallorca , then take the L390 flight to Caen Picafort (the duration of the trip is just over an hour, and the cost is about 5 euros).

From the resort you can get to Alcudia and Playa de Muro and other resorts by bus number 325, which runs every 15 minutes.
