Bloody discharge after childbirth can often start then stop. And women often confuse them with menstruation.

What is the discharge after childbirth?

Isolations and clots after childbirth are exfoliated superficial layers of the endometrium, both in the placenta region and in the periphery. These clots are thrombotic masses, intertwined with cells. These are not the remains of the placenta and not part of the fetus.

Scarlet discharge after delivery usually lasts no longer than a week, and gradually their abundance decreases. They are replaced by pink discharge through a larger interval after delivery - they are a mixture of bloody and mucous discharge of the uterine cavity. Pink discharge indicates a successful course of the late postpartum period and the beginning of wound surface healing in the uterus.

On the 14th day after the birth, lean, brownish, slightly sticky discharges appear-the sap flowing through the healing surface of the endometrium. A month later, a visit to the gynecologist is recommended, in order to confirm the normal process of healing the uterine cavity.

Sexual life after childbirth and discharge

Sex after childbirth can cause bloody discharge, as it traumatizes the tissues of the birth canal that have not yet healed, in particular the vagina and cervix. That is why abstinence from sexual intercourse is recommended at least two months after childbirth.
