The most common of them are such varieties as "Black Prince", "Melitopol black", "Kuban black" and "Black velvet". About the apricot "Black velvet" we'll talk in more detail.

Variety description

Description Apricot "Black velvet" should start with the fact that this variety is a hybrid. It is derived as a result of the free crossing of common apricot with cherry plum. Crimean breeders managed to get large fruits, which reach 70 grams. The skin is slightly pubescent, which explains the name of the variety. It has a dark purple color. The fruit itself tastes like nectarine and cherry plum at the same time, but the fragrance is felt apricot. The flesh of the fruit is juicy, the fibers in it are tender, practically not felt in the mouth. Black apricots are an excellent raw material for conservation.

Cultivation and care

Caring for black apricots is not more difficult than for ordinary ones. Just like their "relatives", black apricots like sunny and warm places on the site, they can not stand drafts and stagnant water. The best soil for planting such trees is a mixture of clay, sand and peat in a ratio of 1: 1: 1. Feed trees should be moderately and only organic fertilizers. Over-fertilization trees tolerate the trees worse than their lack. Periodically, it is necessary to remove dead and very old branches from trees that do not bear fruit or yield a meager crop. In spring, the trunks are treated with a lime solution, which protects the trees from pests and parasites.
