When studying antibodies to thyroid peroxidase (TPO), the norm ranges from 0 to 35 U / L for people under 50 years of age. In persons over 50 anti-TPO should be kept from zero to 100 units / liter.
It is worth noting that about 10% of patients with thyroid problems have a low antibody content. This is most typical for those suffering from rheumatic diseases.
If antibodies to TPO are higher than normal
Exceeding the indicator is possible due to such factors:
- Hashimoto's thyroiditis (90% of cases), in which antibodies to thyroid cells;
- Graves' disease ;
- hypothyroidism;
- Croven's disease.
It should be noted and indirect factors that affect the TVET:
- bad ecology;
- stress;
- mechanical damage to the thyroid;
- long-term therapy with hormonal means;
- transferred viral diseases.
If antibodies TPO exceed the norm in a woman at the stage of gestation, the risk of thyroiditis after delivery is high. In addition, a similar situation can adversely affect the development of the fetus. The increase in the number of antibodies is explained by hypothyroidism , which worsens the synthesis of hormones. The danger of this ailment for children is that in the future it leads to cretinism.
