Wet (liquid) wallpaper or, as they are called in another way, decorative plaster - a modern type of walling materials, which is quite capable of replacing the usual paper wallpaper.
The basis of wet wallpaper is cellulose or silk fiber, mixed with adhesive bonding agent and plasticizers. The composition of this mixture can also include all kinds of decorative elements: dyes, glitters, mica, mother of pearl, mineral crumbs, etc. Liquid wallpaper is sold in dry form in packs of 1 kg.
Advantages of wet wallpaper for walls
The properties of wet wallpaper are unique, because they are:
- easily and quickly applied;
- are able to hide small uneven walls;
- do not require docking;
- environmentally safe and do not contain toxic substances;
- have antistatic and noise-insulating properties;
- durable;
- Do not burn in the sun (this applies to wallpaper based on silk fiber);
- will suit any interior style.
Technology of wet wallpaper application
It is very easy to apply wallpaper to walls.
- First they are soaked in water for 12 hours according to the instructions.
- Then, with a rectangular spatula or texture roller, the finished mass is evenly applied to the walls. The thickness of the coating should not exceed 3-5 mm.
- The third stage is the drying of the wallpaper. The room needs to provide maximum air access: ideally, the wallpaper should dry in a draft. An important nuance: before the full drying of wet wallpaper, they should not be subjected to mechanical influences, nor can furniture be moved close to the walls, as this will slow down the process, and the moisture from the wallpaper can be absorbed in the piece of furniture from plywood or fiberboard.
Keep in mind that the walls under wet wallpaper should be prepared in advance: remove the old coating and apply a coat of primer, and large cracks - align with putty.
Sometimes wet wallpaper is applied to the ceiling . The technology is the same as for walls, only surface preparation can differ: uneven ceilings are usually leveled with plasterboard.
Wet wallpaper can also be used for kitchen and bathroom. In the latter case, it is recommended to cover the wallpaper after drying with 1-2 layers of a transparent protective varnish.
In addition, with the help of wet wallpaper with some skill, you can create almost any picture. It can be either an abstraction or a very specific image. Children's rooms often use animated themes, and for the living room or bedroom geometric or floral motifs are suitable.
