Summer Palace of Presidents of Chile


A small resort town of Viña del Mar is located on the Pacific coast near Valparaiso , it can even be said that these cities have grown together. Viña del Mar is like a "summer residence". Interesting facts about the palace

Until 1930, the presidential residence was located in the building of the navy, but was moved to Cerro Castillo . Cerro Castillo is the name of one of the seven hills on which the city of Viña del Mar is located. The palace was built during the reign of President Carlos Ibañez del Campo. The architects Luis Fernandez Brown and Manuel Valenzuela worked on the palace project, they also supervised its construction. The building is built in neo-colonial style. It has three floors and a cellar. It provides everything for business meetings, conferences and even family celebrations. From the first days of its existence, the residence was criticized for the luxury with which everything was arranged here. Because of this, the presidents Jorge Alessandri and Allende did not stay long in the palace. Of course, much has changed in recent years. Each president made his own changes to the architecture of the building and its layout.

Internal building arrangement

On the first floor there are living rooms, a kitchen and three terraces facing the slope of the hill. In the left wing is the president's office and a library. The writing desk, armchair and lining of the walls are made of local wood. On the second floor there are bedrooms of the head of state and his guests. From the furniture there are English sofas, armchairs in the style of Louis XIV, English side tables, chairs "Queen Anna", sofas and armchairs Trigal. The third floor is divided by towers. There are a cabinet, a library and an observatory. All floors are connected by an internal elevator.

Currently, the palace is run by the President of the Republic. It is the place of various events held by the President. When the head of state is in the palace, the national flag of the Republic of Chile is hung at the entrance.

How to get there?

From Santiago to Valparaiso, there is a bus every 15 minutes. Horse-drawn carriages constantly deliver tourists to Viña del Mar. In this small town, walking along La Marina , you can easily find the Summer Presidential Palace.
