Subcultures of youth

The child from the very beginning tries to repeat the behavior of his parents and other adults around him. For young children, their parents are role models. But the older the child, the closer his age to a teenager, the more children are separated from their parents, they want to be different from them, not only to their parents, but also to the society around them. This is the reason for the emergence of youth subcultures. Young people are united in separate movements, which differ from the overwhelming majority of the behavior, clothing and general style of life. The main function of the youth subculture is to enable young people to stand out from others, realize themselves, find friends with the same views.

Each subculture of youth has its own attributes, its style in clothes and music, its sites. There are even gestures that are characteristic of certain subcultures.

Types of youth subcultures

Youth subcultures can be divided into species in accordance with their specificity and the basis for their occurrence.

1. More often than not, young people unite around a certain direction in music. This, for example, punks or rockers. With these kinds of youth subcultures everything is clear: young people become fans of any music performers, imitate them in clothes and way of life.

2. There are subcultures in which people share common ideals and the concept of the meaning of life. Here we will take a closer look at the subculture of the ready and emo.

3. Antisocial youth subcultures. Representatives of these subcultures most aggressively oppose themselves to social values, norms of behavior and way of life. The most famous antisocial subculture is skinheads. They are easy to recognize on the shaved head, high boots, jeans with suspenders. This is quite aggressive movement. Skinheads often unite in gangs, arrange pogroms, beatings, for example, visitors or representatives of other subcultures. In this youth movement there is a clear hierarchy, members of the subculture of skinheads in the overwhelming majority of cases are young guys. They often become violators of public order.

Problems of youth subcultures

  1. One of the main problems of youth subcultures is that adolescents joining this or that youth movement view this as a step towards growing up and independence, although later many do not know how to break ties with the subculture and return to the generally accepted norms and rules.
  2. Often among the youth subcultures, drugs are spreading.
  3. Some sociologists and researchers of youth movements note the tendency of some representatives of subcultures to commit suicide.
  4. In addition, members of youth subcultures become dependent on the norms and rules adopted in their environment.
