Spotlights for stretch ceilings

Spot lights are a real element of decor. They can be mounted in a circle or a symmetrical wavy pattern. Thanks to the spotlights, you can also light up places that need more light. They are pleased with the eye and do not irritate.

What are the lamps for stretch ceilings?

Point lighting can be divided into two categories - mortise and overhead. They are used in equal measure and have their advantages and disadvantages.

Point Mortise Fixtures

When we cut a luminaire into a suspended ceiling , in any case we violate its integrity. To prevent the canvas from creeping, a plastic ring around the hole is glued, the diameter of which is 4-5 mm. This ring should fit the diameter of the inner part of the lamp . For this purpose, many spotlights are suitable, except heavy and oversized. The luminaires can be above / below the ceiling level or at its level.

Overhead Lights

Installation of overhead luminaires on the tension ceiling provides for the preparation of the base. However, this significantly increases the choice. For overhead lamps, you can use any type of lamp.

Kinds of lamps in tension ceiling lamps

  1. Halogen lamps.
  2. They have high power and well illuminate the room, while consuming 3 times less electricity. However, choose halogen lamps with a power of not more than 35 W, otherwise they can deform the web.

Also do not forget that these bulbs are short-lived. They quickly burn out. Their advantages over incandescent lamps are a smaller size, bright lighting and a large assortment. The most popular are cone halogen lamps with a reflector.

Do not forget to replace and install halogens correctly. Usually they are sold with a glove. If there is no glove, use a napkin to keep the skin fat on the quartz glass. Otherwise, the bulb will quickly become unusable.

The service life of the halogen lamp is 2000-4000 hours. Its cartridge is quite low, which allows you to leave a small distance between the ceiling and the stretcher. It is very convenient for low spaces.

  3. Incandescent lamps.
  4. They are the most common, but their economy and service life are not encouraging. In the case of suspended ceilings, remember that 60 W for an incandescent lamp is the ultimate power limit.

The frosted glass does not so heat up and evenly scatter light. Service life of incandescent lamps up to 1000 hours. Because of the long socle, she needs a cartridge 10-12 cm long, and this requires an appropriate distance between the main ceiling and tension.

  5. LED lamp.
  6. They do not heat up and are absolutely safe for the stretch fabric. In their technical parameters, they are superior to halogen lamps and incandescent lamps. With continuous operation, their service life should be at least 5 years. In this case, compared to a halogen bulb of similar power, the energy consumption will be half as much, and if compared with an incandescent lamp, then five! The plinth is different, but for a luminaire under stretch ceilings it fits. Power is from 12 to 220 V. For a tension ceiling, it is better to choose the maximum power and not to install the transformer.

Installation of luminaires in the suspended ceiling

Before hanging the canvas, hangings are attached to the main ceiling. They must be installed extremely accurately, since the bottom of the suspension and the tensioning cloth must be on the same line. In places where spotlights will be installed, so that the film does not rupture, special rings are glued and only then holes for lights are cut.

This process is rather complicated. It requires great accuracy, so it's better to trust the installation of spotlights to professionals.
