Sun Stone - Description

"Sun Stone" is an office skyscraper, built in Riga in 2004. The authors of this project were architects Victor Valgums with their architect bureau "Zenico Projects" and Alvis Zlugotnist from the architect bureau "Tectum". The building reaches a height of 123 meters, thereby becoming the tallest building in Riga and the second tallest in the Baltic countries. "Sun Stone" ascends to the sky for as many as 27 floors and falls under the ground on 2 floors.

It was for finishing this skyscraper for the first time in Latvia that the glazed surface was used, with the unique Fulton system. Metal, concrete and mirrors glittering in the light - all this merges into a single symphony with an easy echo of urbanization.

Today in the building of the "Sun Stone" is located the Latvian, main, office of "Swedbank".

  1. When building a skyscraper in the ground to a depth of 30 meters, almost three hundred piles were installed. This measure was simply necessary to create a reliable foundation, because the "Sun Stone" was erected in the swampy terrain.
  2. The total length of electric cables laid in the building reaches 500 kilometers. If you deploy this cable and create a single line from it, then its size is enough to pave the way from Riga to Minsk.
  3. The piles used as the foundation for the foundation have a length that is commensurate with a quarter of the height of the skyscraper itself.
  4. "Sun Stone" was the first of four skyscrapers to be built on the left bank of the Daugava River in the heart of Riga. It was with him that the construction of all other modern high-rise buildings began in the Latvian capital.
