Sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are a disease that causes inflammation and thrombosis of the rectum veins. For its treatment, various variants are used, from medicamentous to surgical. The method of sclerotherapy has been known for a long time, from about the 18th century. In those days aggressive substances were used for sclerosing the nodes, and the procedure itself was rather painful.

To date, the procedure of sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids is one of the most comfortable and inexpensive options for getting rid of the nodes of internal hemorrhoids.

What is the procedure?

Sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids, most often, is prescribed in the first stages of the disease, when the internal nodes are small. In advanced cases (3-4 stages), or with large nodal formations, sclerotherapy is often prescribed as a preparatory procedure. It is used to stop bleeding before surgical removal. Also, it can be prescribed to patients in old age.

The sclerotherapy procedure is performed in treatment rooms without hospitalization, using local anesthetic drugs (gel). It consists in the introduction, in the base of the hemorrhoidal node, of special preparations (detergents) that cause the sclerosis of the walls of the veins and capillaries of the node (exclude it from the blood supply system). This, in turn, leads to the drying out and the withering away of education. Usually during the procedure, the patient may experience mild discomfort and mild pain. Severe or severe pain can signal an erroneous injection site. Sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids makes it possible to inject several knots at a time.

The newest medical preparations for sclerosing allow to make this procedure without stimulation of formation of blood clots. As a rule, drugs are used for sclerotherapy:

It should be noted that sclerotherapy is not a treatment option for hemorrhoids. Possible secondary education of internal hemorrhoids, but only 10-12 months after the procedure.

Rehabilitation after sclerotherapy

In most cases, after the procedure of sclerotherapy, a person does not lose his ability to work and does not need special conditions. In the first 24-36 hours, slight pain and discomfort in the anus can be maintained. After 6-10 days there is a complete dying off of the nodes and their release during defecation.

Follow-up examination is performed after 21 days. During it, in the case of incomplete removal of nodes, it is possible to conduct a repeat procedure.
