Types of Schengen visas

The duration of an approved stay in a European country that is part of the Schengen Union can vary and depends on the type of visa received. In total there are 4 categories of visas.

Types A and B are types of transit visas and are allowed to travel on the Schengen territory from several hours to several days.

A D visa is issued under certain conditions and allows its holder to reside on the territory of only one Schengen country.

The most popular visa is a type C visa, it is most often opened by tourists and travelers who go on holiday to Europe. This category also has several subtypes that determine the duration of the Schengen visa.

In addition, it is possible to single out single and multiple visas. A single entry visa allows you to cross the Schengen border only once. This means that if a visa is issued for 30 days, then they will not be used for several trips. Inside the Schengen area you will have the opportunity to travel freely. But if you have already returned home, then for the next trip you will need to open a new visa. Unused days of a single visa are "burned out".

Multiple Schengen visa or multivisa allows you to "spend" the number of days during the entire period for which a visa is issued. That is, to enter the territory of European countries many times. But it should be noted that a single trip should not last more than 90 days for a half year.
