They start breeding boxwood in autumn, and not in spring, as the young shoots of this year at the end of summer are not yet lignified, but already ripe enough for cutting. In the summer, you can also cuttings - this method is more popular among beginners in gardening, because it guarantees a time reserve for rooting, until the first frosts come.

How to propagate the box with the help of cuttings?

First of all, you need to prepare the pots, because you must plant the twigs immediately after the cut. Capacities should be medium (about 20 cm in diameter), then they can be placed at once 4-5 seedlings. It is desirable that the soil is light and fertile. Such a primer is recommended to mix with sand in a proportion of 1: 1. Drainage for rooting boxwood is not required.

Next, armed with a sharp pruner, cut a branch from any beautiful boxwood box at an acute angle. The length of it should not be more than 7-12 cm. Leave five leaves on the shoot, the others, growing at the bottom of the cut, tear off. Immediately place twigs in small pits and sprinkle with earth. On top of the pot it is desirable to put a transparent plastic film.

Install pots with boxwood saplings in the garden or on the terrace, in the penumbra. Usually the cuttings take root quickly, having time to grow stronger well before the onset of the autumn cold. So, if in 2 weeks on your future bush boxes already there are rootlets, the plants can be planted in the open ground. But if frosts came early, it is better to leave them in pots until spring - that's exactly what they do in the northern regions, without risking young seedlings.

When the boxwood is propagated by cuttings at home, for its successful rooting in the pot, artificial heating of the soil, as well as various phytohormones, is often used.
