Metronidazole in gynecology

This tool is used in various forms. It can be tablets and cream, and vaginal suppositories, and vaginal gel, and injection.

Metronidazole has a high degree of bioavailability; therefore, contraindications for its use in obstetrics and gynecology are allergic reactions to this agent, organic lesions of the central nervous system, the period of pregnancy and feeding the baby with breast milk, abnormalities in liver function, blood diseases.

Indications for use of metronidazole in gynecology

Local use of the drug, that is, in the form of vaginal suppositories with metronidazole or vaginal gel, is indicated in the treatment of trichomoniasis, thrush, bacterial vaginosis , urethritis.

If the urogenital infection recurs constantly, and also in the case of trichomoniasis, the doctor necessarily complements the local therapy with metronidazole by its systemic use in tableted or injectable forms.

How does Metronidazole apply?

  1. Tablets of the drug are usually applied three to four times a day for 250-750 mg.
  2. Intravenously, the drug is administered every eight hours for 500-750 mg.
  3. Candles are administered intravaginally once a day for 500 mg.

How long should be the course of application of the drug, the doctor determines, depending on the severity and nature of the disease. When treating trichomonadic vaginitis with metronidazole, a woman should not have sex. In this case, the course of therapy should also pass and her sexual partner.

When using Metronidazole drugs, patients should refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages, as this can lead to body reactions such as headache, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramping.

Side effects of Metronidazole

When starting treatment with metronidazole, as with any other remedy, it must be remembered that it can have side effects. In this case, they are expressed in:
