Liver scintigraphy is a modern study. This method helps visualize the liver and evaluate its condition. The picture obtained as a result of the research is clear and informative and allows considering even minor changes that have occurred in the body.
Scintigraphy of the liver with the administration of labeled erythrocytes
During the procedure of hepatoscintigraphy, a small amount of radiopharmaceuticals is introduced into the body. The dosage is chosen so that radioactive substances can not harm the body.
A quarter of an hour after the injection - the drugs are injected through the vein - the examination begins. Hepatoscintigraphy can be of two types:
- Static liver scintigraphy allows to determine the functional activity of liver cells.
- Dynamic liver scintigraphy assesses the hepatobiliary system in terms of its functional state.
In simpler terms, this research method allows:
- evaluate the functioning of the body;
- detect cyst;
- diagnose hemangioma;
- to determine the size and position of the liver and spleen;
- examine the organ after injury for the presence of ruptures.
Indications for liver scintigraphy
Radiological examination is shown when:
- increased spleen or liver;
- cirrhosis;
- hepatitis;
- suspicion of an abscess or cyst;
- tumors;
- metastases;
- hepatomegaly;
- splenomegaly ;
- suspicion of echinococcosis.
Preparing for liver scintigraphy
This is a fairly simple diagnostic method and does not require special preparation. Immediately before the study, the patient should warn the doctor if she is breastfeeding and whether she is in a position.
If you have recently had to undergo scintigraphy, it is best to postpone the procedure. Otherwise, too much dose of radioactive substances can enter the body.
