LCD monitors or televisions use backlighting with cold cathode fluorescent lamps encased in cathode-ray tubes. They are located in the matrix horizontally. In this case, the lamps in the LCD are constantly on, and because the liquid crystal layer can not darken the backlight completely, on the screen black color we see a dark gray.
LED monitors are actually a subset of LCD, but they use a completely different type of illumination - LED. In this case, the LEDs are located on the side or directly in large quantities. Since it is possible to control them, that is, to darken or illuminate certain areas, the contrast of the image of LED monitors or TV sets far exceeds the contrast of the LCD.
