Laws of the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is a developed European country with a law-abiding and benevolent population. But in order for tourists to be comfortable and safe to be there, they need to know some laws that will protect them from clashes with the police. Foreigners who respect the laws of a foreign state can always rely on the understanding and assistance of the population.

Entry into the country

The first thing you need to do when visiting the Czech Republic is knowing the laws about entering the country and importing personal goods, drinks, food and even souvenirs. Legislation of the Czech Republic dictates the following rules of entry:

The total cost of souvenirs should not exceed $ 275. Please note that for children under 14 years, the volume of these products is half the amount.

Laws of the Czech Republic for tourists

Every year the Czech Republic is visited by more and more Russian-speaking tourists, and it became necessary to translate its laws for citizens of the CIS countries. Thus, the "Czech Trade Law", the Law on Trade Corporations, the Law on Private International Law and the entire Civil Code were translated into Russian. Of course, a rare tourist before going to the country will decide to read them all, so it is recommended that you read the specific provisions that foreigners should definitely know:

  1. Car rent. You can rent a car only for drivers over 18 years of age with the availability of an international driver's license. You must leave a deposit for the car. It is not out of place to get acquainted with the rules of the road, as surprises may be waiting for you. For example, to stop before a pedestrian crossing it is necessary for 20 m, and not for 5, as in many countries.
  2. Winter tires. The law of the Czech Republic on winter tires says that in the cold season, from November 1 to March 31, all cars must be "re-bobbed." It is impossible to forget about this, since signs are placed throughout the country, especially in mountainous areas. The penalty for non-compliance with this law is about $ 92.
  3. Marijuana. In the Czech Republic, smoking of marijuana and the use of other drugs are legalized, however, their sale, storage, manufacturing (cultivation) and transfer to others are prohibited.
  4. Tax-free. If you make a purchase in shops Tax-free Shopping for more than $ 115, you can expect a refund of VAT, which is up to 22%. To cash out the money, you need to have a receipt and a corporate envelope of the store. All this must be presented at the customs office, where the stamp will be stamped. VAT is refunded in the same place.
  5. Fighting smoking. According to Czech legislation, smoking tobacco is prohibited at public transport stops. In general, smoking in other places of congestion is also not approved, therefore, in order to avoid misunderstandings with local residents and the police, it is better to smoke in specially designated places.
  6. Information Security. For many tourists it will be a surprise that the Information Security Law in the Czech Republic allows the country's information security service to receive confidential information about both the Czechs and foreigners. These are bank accounts, telephone numbers, etc.

Unusual laws

The Czech Republic, like many developed European countries, has unusual and even sometimes ridiculous laws in its code. At first glance, they may seem ridiculous, and we can only guess what cases could provoke the appearance of the following laws in the Civil Code:

  1. Women with the first bust size can claim an increased salary.
  2. Ladies are allowed to miss one working day a month without a good reason. If you say that you did not come to work today because you could not decide which blouse to wear, then no one will think of you to condemn.
  3. Students who diligently behaved during the school year and did not receive any comments, can afford to go to the university by taxi at the expense of the state for the entire next school year.
  4. In the Czech Republic, you can dance striptease with impunity only without music, otherwise you will have to pay a fine.
  5. Czechs who suffer from nicotine addiction can not attend a public toilet. This law does not apply to tourists.
