La Sagesse Nature Reserve


At the mouth of the mangrove swamp in the southeastern part of Grenada lies one of the island's attractions - the amazing reserve of La Saghess. Exotic nature, coral and barrier reefs, shores of salt lakes, undoubtedly, attract the attention of tourists. The ornithologists are especially interested in the reserve, as some species of rare birds live here.

Natural features and rare inhabitants

The territory of the reserve is surrounded by three attractive beaches, bordered by spreading palm trees. The ancient dry forest and a huge number of green cactuses growing around saline reservoirs are of great interest to travelers. Fans of snorkeling will appreciate beautiful reefs.

Ornithologists will have something to do, for the La Sagess Reserve is one of the best places for studying birds in their natural habitat. They can personally observe the habits of birds of different families, among which there is a Caribbean coot, and a brown-headed flycatcher, and the northern yakana, and a green heron. This truly paradisiacal place will not leave indifferent any connoisseur of exotic wildlife.

How to get to the reserve?

From the capital of Grenada , the city of Saint George , to the reserve of La Sagedes, you can take a taxi or rent a car. There are two routes. Through St Pauls Main Rd without traffic jams you will get in 27 minutes, the distance is 14.2 km. If you choose the route through Eastern Main rd.Corinth, the distance is 17 km, and on the way you will stay about 30 minutes without traffic jams. Public transport does not go to the reserve.

Adventurous lovers can take a four-hour walk to the La Sagess Reserve, choosing one of the three routes (via St Pauls Main Rd, via Eastern Main rd.Corinth or via Morne Jaloux).
