Indoor fern

The plant, which grew back in the time of the dinosaurs, to this day accompanies us, being a common indoor flower. And many species of fern have adapted to their home conditions.

Ferns of the rooms - types and names

Nearly 2,000 species of plants make the selection process difficult. Fortunately, only a small part of them are on sale. The most common indoor ferns are as follows:

  1. The Adiantum Raddi is an indoor fern with thin sturdy stems, tender leaves and an elegant structure. It is very easy to care, because it is found in closed rooms more often than others.
  2. The multicore is one of the most beautiful ferns. Likes high humidity and diffused light.
  3. Dawallia is a fast-growing and exotic plant, often used for growing in a closed ground as an ampel. In people, the plant is called deer horns or hare paws.
  4. Nephrolepis is a very common plant used as a pot and ampel plant throughout the world.
  5. Kostenets (asplenium) - consists of 30 species, distributed mainly in the tropics. Actively used for cultivation at home.
  6. Pellea - is unusual in that, unlike most ferns, prefers dry habitats.
  7. Blehnum (drubnyanka) - this room flower fern resembles a palm tree. Its large crown consists of hard wai, and with age the stem develops, the crown in diameter develops up to 1 m.
  8. Pteris (Orlyak) is a common species of ferns, which received its second name for the similarity of the leaves with the eagle's wings. Well withstand the lack of moisture.
  9. Cirtomium - fern with leathery leaves. An unpretentious houseplant, suitable for growing on the northern and eastern sides.
  10. Shield (male fern) - in contrast to the female fern (koedozhnika), has more erect and strong leaves.

To make it easier to decide on the choice of fern for domestic farming, let us say that the easiest in care are the citromium, davalium, pteris round-necked, nephrolepis, and the pelican. If you want to create a beautiful basket with a drooping fern, choose an adianum or nephrolepis. For solitary placement, the crown, blanch and nephrolepis are more suitable.

How to care for a room fern?

Fern is a rather unpretentious plant, and extremely decorative. Most species are shade-tolerant, so they are often decorated with distant corners of rooms from windows.

Consider a little more detail on how to grow an indoor fern. So, the main points:

  1. Lighting . There is enough scattered sunlight to make the fern feel good. Especially since a spreading flower on the windowsill is unlikely to fit.
  2. Watering . It should be moderate, that is, the earth clod should not dry out, but it should not resemble a swamp. Optimal condition - constant light humidity. It is important to maintain it regularly, since waterlogging leads to decay of the roots. Water the plant 2-3 times a week.
  3. Spraying . Since the plant does not tolerate dry air, it must be sprayed periodically, especially in winter, when the air is overdried by heating radiators in the apartment.
  4. Ground . Must be loose and light. The composition should include peat, turf and leaf earth, humus and sand.
  5. Top dressing . Virtually does not need in fertilizer. You can limit yourself to monthly watering with a weak solution of mineral fertilizers .
  6. Transplantation . You can transplant the fern annually, each time in the pot a couple of centimeters more than the previous one. Use the overtaking method, trying not to shake the ground off the roots. If you do not know how the indoor fern reproduces, transplanting is a good time to try it by dividing the bush. This method is the easiest and most reliable. Carefully separate the basal rosettes from the main bush and plant them in a separate pot. Some time after transplantation, the young plant needs greenhouse conditions.
