How to install the eyelets yourself?

Modern interior of any living space can be supplemented with curtains, which are attached to the cornice with the help of eyelets - plastic or metal rings of various diameters.

Curtains can traditionally decorate the windows or separate rooms - this is again in vogue. But having a large number of curtains in the house, each mistress thinks about how she will take off and re-wear small hooks on the cornices. This is a very tedious and laborious work that can be avoided if you use curtains with eyelets, because to put them back on the cornice will take no more than a couple of minutes.

If you buy ready-made curtains or tulle, you can immediately start curtaining the windows. But those who decided to go through all the stages from the choice of fabric to the finished product will require knowledge of how to install eyelets themselves.

What are eyelets?

To begin with, you need to decide on the choice of the decorative element of the curtains. The eyelets are metal or plastic. Products made of metal are divided into matte and shiny and come in a variety of colors, or made under a tree. The shape of the eyelet is also different - curly or round.

For children, you can pick up funny yokes or dolphins, and in a strict interior fit classic shapes and shades. If you want the eyelets to stand out against the curtains in contrast, you can choose the bright rings on the contrary.

You can also choose the diameter of the eyelet - from 1 to 5 centimeters. In order for the eyelets to glide smoothly over the cornice, it is necessary that their inner diameter be about one centimeter larger than the diameter of the cornice.

In order to install eyelets there are all kinds of devices that resemble a kind of press, but buying it for one-time production of curtains is meaningless.

Can I install eyelets without a special tool?

The easiest way to install eyelets on the curtain is to purchase plastic rings. They have many advantages: they do not leave rust on the fabric when washing, they are just as beautiful as metal ones, but their main merit is they snap their hands without any effort. But if you chose metal eyelets and do not know how to install them without a tool yourself, then do not despair, because it's easy to make to an ignorant man:

  1. To begin with, you need to buy a special eyelet tape on an adhesive basis, or turn the fabric of the curtain itself to the required height - usually 5 to 12 centimeters.
  2. Before installing the eyelets on the fabric, the curtain must be completely ready. The number of eyelets for a beautiful fit should always be even. The best look is the curtain, where the distance between the rings is 18cm, but in some cases it can be increased or decreased - it all depends on the type of fabric selected. So, for a light and airy organza, you will need to measure no more than 15cm, otherwise the curtain will be ugly at the top.
  3. After marking with sharp scissors, cut holes slightly smaller than the diameter of the eyelet. The edges of loose fabrics are best treated with an overlock.
  4. After the holes are prepared, the most critical part comes work - one part of the eyelet with a high "neck" is threaded into the fabric and on the other hand is covered with the second part.
  5. After this, a conventional furniture nail with a wide bonnet is taken, it is superimposed over the structure of the rings with a hat downward and the neck of the eyelet is expanded by several blows with a hammer on the nail. Instead of a nail, you can choose anything from the available material suitable for the form.

Recently, in the retail chain, you can find metal eyelets that snap in the same way as plastic ones, which means that their installation will be completely problem-free.
