Gynecological mirror

The main tool of a gynecologist is called a mirror. In fact, this device has nothing to do with real mirrors. How does a gynecological mirror look like?

The appearance and the device may vary. The main types of gynecological mirrors:

• the gynecological mirror in Cuzco is detachable (it is dismantled into two separate spoons, which, when working, are fixed by a stepped mechanism);
• the gynecological mirror in Cuzco is fixed (has sizes from 1 to 3 and a screw device that helps to divert the mirror leaves to a fixed distance);

Gynecological mirror: dimensions

Depending on the age of the woman or the need for a significant dilution of the walls of the vagina, there are different sizes of vaginal mirrors:

• the XS mirror is used in children, its internal diameter is 14 mm, and the length of the valves is 70 mm;
• the mirror S has an internal diameter of 23 mm and a length of the flaps of 75 mm;
• mirror M has an internal diameter of 25 mm and a length of leaflets of 85 mm;
• the mirror L has an internal diameter of 30 mm and a length of the flaps of 90 mm.

Different sizes of mirrors help to adapt both to the individual features of the woman, and to the necessary manipulations that will be carried out during the examination. The gynecological mirror for the nullipar is usually smaller, in virgins gynecological mirrors are not used, only rectal examination is used. A children's gynecologic mirror is used in adolescents aged 12 or older who live sexually or can undergo anesthesia in virgins with minimal trauma to the hymen in children.

Reusable gynecological mirror

In modern medicine, metal gynecological mirrors for reusable use are rarely used. Women usually prefer disposable, because they are not sure of the reliability of sterilization of reusable mirrors and are afraid of infection with sexual infections. But with the correct treatment and sterilization of a reusable mirror, this does not happen.

One-time gynecological mirror

In recent years, in almost all examinations, women have used disposable gynecological mirrors or gynecological sets , which contain other disposable instruments besides them. They are made of polyester, they are durable and reliable in operation. Disposable mirrors have rounded, well polished edges, because of which the introduction of them does not cause pain. They are intended for single use in women and are not sterilized, but discarded after use, which avoids sexual infection from other patients due to poor sterilization.

How to enter a gynecological mirror?

For inspection, the woman lies on the gynecological chair, undressing below the waist. The doctor examines in sterile gloves, treats the external genitalia of a woman with an antiseptic. The mirror is held in a closed form with the right hand, and the left lips are bred. Mirror up to half enter into the vagina, keeping closed, parallel to the labia, and then turn 90 degrees, moving to the posterior fornix. Then gently push apart the shutters and fix it with a lock, after which they examine the cervix. Pain with the introduction of a gynecological mirror is possible in nulliparous women, with the wrong choice of the size of the mirror or improper manipulation. After examination, the cervix weakens the lock and, in a semi-closed state, examines the walls of the vagina.
