Indeed, just buying a fish and planting it in a jar does not mean becoming an aquarist. Real fans of this business themselves make almost all the equipment, select beautiful landscapes for the bottom and buy only fish. A homemade outdoor filter is a very popular topic for discussion at forums about aquarium where the aquarists exchange experiences. We will also try to make a cleaner on our own. Let's consider two options at once.
How to make a glass outer filter for the aquarium?
To build an external filter , it is necessary to work by own hands, but without the help of specialists for some parts of the aquarium it is indispensable. It's about ordering a glass structure with partitions under the filter stage. The filling we will lay in small containers, and just on their size depends on the design of the body. Such buildings are manufactured wherever aquariums are made to order.
- So, in the photo we see four compartments. The first three for the fillers of the filter, the latter becomes preliminary before the water enters the aquarium, where we install a water heater and will saturate the water with oxygen.

Self-made external vertical filter for the aquarium with their own hands
From the plastic pipe and components for plumbing, we can make a filter based on a cleaner for tap water.
- So, we acquire a pump, a plastic pipe and a plug, where we will install the mechanism.
- With the help of heating, we make the plastic pipe a little softer and we can install the plug tightly. In the future, the tightness will provide silicone or mounting glue.
- Now install the pump. We make holes for the fasteners, then additionally fix the plastic gasket to install the pump itself. With the help of plastic pipes and accessories we connect the pump to the cleaning system.
- Now for the cleaning system itself for our self-made external filter for the aquarium. It can be seen in the photo that each section is made of the same tube, but several already. We just cut out part of the thickness and clamps the pipe. Next, we take a plastic mesh and fix the position with silicone.
- We install in the flask from the plastic pipe our containers and on top of the pump.
