History of creation

The decision to establish a public park in Buenos Aires was taken at the City Council of the capital on May 14, 1909. The opening of the Centenario was timed to coincide with the day of the century of the May Revolution, which took place in 1810. At the site where there was a wasteland, a modern parkland appeared. Her project was worked by the French architect and part-time landscape designer Carlos Theis, the initiator of the majority of parks in Buenos Aires .

In 1953 in the park of Centenario, the amphitheater named after Eva Peron was opened for 1000 seats. Here, in the open air, summer festivals and children's parties were often held. In 5 years the amphitheater suffered from a fire. During the reign of the mayor Osvaldo Cassiategore, the park was completely restored. In the center, in place of the burned amphitheater, a pond appeared, which for a long time remained dry.

In 2006, the park of Centenario again underwent a reconstruction. The work was completely completed with the advent of a new amphitheater designed for 1600 seats. The state authorities financed the repair of the irrigation system, light towers, arbours, benches and public toilets. They improved the internal roads of the park zone, equipped the territory with running tracks and sectors for aerobics classes.
