One of the most common infectious diseases diagnosed in the autumn and winter period is catarrhal angina. Despite the fact that this type of pathology is considered not severe and is quickly cured, it is important to take appropriate measures in time, as it can go into the lacunar and follicular form.
Causes of development of catarrhal angina
In most cases (about 80%), the causative agent of this disease is streptococcus beta-hemolytic type of group A. More rarely the causes of angina are:
- pneumococci;
- streptococci in other groups;
- staphylococci;
- fungi of the genus Candida.
Single situations are also known, when the disease is provoked by viruses and spirochaetes.
It is worth noting that additional factors contributing to the progression of pathology are a change in climatic conditions, a decrease in immunity, a lack of vitamins and microelements.
Is acute catarrhal sinusitis?
The infectious nature of the disease indicates that it is easily transmitted by close contact and airborne. Therefore, it is worth refraining from close communication with the patient, taking measures to decontaminate the room in which he is, to take preventive measures.
Symptoms of catarrhal angina
Unlike other types of described pathology, catarrhal angina develops rapidly, for a maximum of 2-3 days after infection, and sometimes for 1-2.5 hours.
Symptoms of the disease:
- chills;
- weakness and malaise;
- increase in temperature to 38 degrees;
- pain in muscles, aches in joints;
- dry mouth;
- burning and sore throat, discomfort when swallowing;
- headache.
Local clinical manifestations:
- an increase in the size of the lymph nodes at the base of the neck;
- plaque on the tonsils ;
- suppurative deposits on the back wall of the pharynx;
- mucus secretion;
- redness near the tonsils and the root of the tongue.
In most cases, angina causes an intoxication of the body, if you do not start therapy immediately, you may experience symptoms such as digestive disorders, constipation, vomiting and nausea.
How to treat catarrhal angina?
Among the general recommendations are the following:
- Compliance with bed rest.
- Isolation of the patient to prevent the spread of pathology.
- Correction of the diet in favor of food rich in proteins and vitamins. The dishes must be necessarily warm and preferably ground to avoid irritation of the mucous throat.
- Abundant drink (tea, herbal decoctions with antiseptic properties).
Treatment of catarrhal angina directly depends on the causative agent of the disease.
If the determining factor is the virus, a course of drugs based on human interferon with an immunomodulatory effect will be required. In addition, the intake of vitamin complexes with microelements is prescribed.
Fungal origin of pathology suggests
Antibiotics for catarrhal angina are recommended exclusively in the case of the bacterial nature of the disease. Before choosing a medication, you need to give a swab from the mouth to determine the sensitivity of microorganisms to antibiotic medications. Sometimes it is enough to gargle with antiseptic solutions:
- furacilin;
- chlorophyllipt;
- potassium permanganate;
- boric acid;
- salt and baking soda;
- iodine.
With severe pain syndromes and a strong increase in body temperature, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drugs can be taken, for example, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen.
