Cambodia Markets

Many tourists visit Cambodia with only one goal: to do shopping . But also to those who come here to relax and enjoy the real eastern flavor, you should visit the markets of Cambodia, since it is there that exotic can be found in truly unlimited quantities.

In markets aimed at local residents, you can try exotic food (however, not all tourists risk doing this, limiting themselves to its consideration). Tourist markets offer mainly souvenir products, including a wide variety of silver products with precious and semiprecious stones. They are very highly appreciated abroad due to filigree handwork, but they can contain very little silver (or even not contain it at all). Stones do not increase the cost of products too much, since they usually do not have a high quality. Also in great demand is local costume jewelery, including all kinds of carved ornaments.

Tourists are happy to purchase silk products, as well as replicas of world famous brands, looking "almost like real", but having a ridiculous price.

Market in Sihanoukville

In Sihanoukville, there is only one market, but everything can be bought on it: from gifts and souvenirs to home appliances and electronics - in short, everything produced in South-East Asia. Most of the goods here are made in Thailand.

Night market in Angkor

This market works from 18-00, but it's better to come here by 19-00 - then all the shops will be open for sure. In addition, after the onset of dusk, when multi-colored lights are lit, it looks much more beautiful. In this market, located in the heart of the city, you can not only buy a variety of goods at very low prices, but also eat in a very decent restaurant, visit a massage parlor and watch a movie about Angkor Wat in the cinema.

Siem Reap Markets

The central market of the city is distinguished by very low prices for fruits (even compared to other markets in Southeast Asia), as well as low prices for souvenirs and bags.

Also popular with tourists is the Night Market in Siem Reap. If you do not know what to bring from Cambodia , then this is the best place to buy souvenirs. In addition to magnets and handicrafts of local artisans, you can buy silver jewelry with stones, as well as crocodile leather bags and a variety of textiles. The market starts to work at 18-00.

Markets of Phnom Penh

Russian market

is located in one of the oldest districts of Phnom Penh. Its name is due to the fact that the Russian embassy was once nearby. It's rather problematic to put a car around the market (usually parking lots are full), but if you manage to get it installed, you will get real pleasure from this Asian-colored motley, with narrow passages, but surprisingly clean market. The market has a square shape, in the center of it there are "glutton rows" - here they prepare and sell food. In the air, in the literal sense of the word, there is a fowl of roasting food, so most Europeans are trying to get past this part of the market as quickly as possible. However, the Cambodians themselves are happy to eat here.

In addition to food, you can buy here ... anything! Fruits and vegetables, famous Cambodian pajamas, fish, meat, local craftsmen's products - baskets, handmade mobile hand-made carts, and even opium smokers, as well as jewelry, mostly silver ones. You can find here both clothes of factory production and quite decent quality, and replicas of world famous brands. There are many items made of crocodile leather and silk.

Another popular Phnom Penh market is called "Old" . It is worth a visit even if you do not intend to buy anything at all, because here you can fully experience the national Khmer color. Buy here you can do anything - from vegetables and fruits to real antiques and household appliances; in the market there are also cafes, where you can enjoy not only inexpensive dishes of local cuisine, but also dances. The market works both day and night, but if in the daytime it is in the "framework" of the allotted territory, then at night it expands significantly, occupying the neighboring streets.

There is also the Night Market in Phnom Penh. It is designed more for tourists: here you can buy antiques and art objects, souvenirs, handmade silk products, etc. It is located on the shore of Tonle Sap and runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 17-00 and until midnight.

The market of Psar Tmai (the title translates as "New Market") is located in the city center, one and a half kilometers from Wat Phnom , therefore it is also called Central. The building in which the market is located is built in the style of "art deco" and deserves special attention. Prices are traditionally low. The market is open from 5 am to 5 pm.
