Zoo Dvur Kralove

Dvur Kralove is a zoo in the Czech city of Hradec Kralove, the capital of the Hradec Králové Region, or rather in its suburb called Dvur-Kralove nad Labem. It was opened in May 1946 and began with an "exhibition" of animals that live in the local mountains. Today there live about 3 thousand individuals.

Safari

Route "Africa" is available only in the warm season - in winter, animals live in "winter apartments." But in summer they live in almost natural conditions, and you can watch them during a safari - from the window of your own car or a special train consisting of several open trailers.

Of the 72 hectares of the zoo, about 50 are reserved for extensive enclosures in which animals live, as if at large. Here you can see zebras and ostriches, giraffes (they are inhabited by a whole family of 15 individuals) and rhinoceroses (including whites: of the 24 surviving in the world of these rare animals in Dvur Karlov lives 9), elephants and water goats, antelopes and East African cows .

Predators live here, and when a "safari train" resides in the allotted territory, the metal grid is lowered to the roofs for security purposes. In addition to lions, here you can meet hyenas and cheetahs.

Inhabitants of the zoo

There is also an ordinary zoo here. Under the net stretched at a high altitude, flamingos, ibises, ducks, herons and other birds live. Visitors can freely walk inside this enclosure and observe the life of birds. Also here there are pavilions of fish and reptiles, anthropoid apes, hippos and night animals.

Activities for children

Children really like to feed the inhabitants of the zoo, but this is not the only thing that attracts babies here: in the zoo pet birthdays and evening "walking" of some animals are arranged. As a rule, these events take place in the warm season.

other services

On the territory of the zoo there is an art gallery of Zdeněk Burian "Prehistoric Time", where you can see more than 80 paintings on paleontological and anthropological themes, and the museum "World of Dinosaurs".

Accommodation in the territory of a safari park

In the Zoo of Dvur Kralove you can stop for the night: there is a camping site called Safarikemp, consisting of separate bungalow cottages. Those who wish can stay for the night in their own trailers or break up camping tents.

From the park itself, the campsite is separated by a fence through which you can observe the zebras and ostriches, without fear that they will interfere with rest . On the territory there is a swimming pool, several children's playgrounds, a cafe.
