The singing field

In the capital of Estonia there is a unique place where outstanding musical events are held, it is called the Singing Field. Varieties of such objects are scattered all over the world, but only in Tallinn this place was created naturally on the slope of Lasnamäe Hill.

Singing field - the history of creation

In Estonia, music festivals have been held since 1869, but only in 1923 they built the first permanent stage, which was installed in the Kadriorg Park . After a few years it became clear that all the spectators here can not fit. Then they began to prepare the terrain of the present Song Festival Field.

The same architect, Karl Boorman, was working on the new scene, which housed the previous scene in Kadriorg Park. His task was to accommodate 15,000 singers in one place. As the basis of his project, he took his first creation. The scene was not permanent, but exhibited with the onset of the Song Festival. And only after the Second World War it was decided to move away from the constant changes and put up a huge scene that would meet all the then demand.

The new variety has survived until today on the Singing Field of Tallinn, and it was designed by Alari Kotli in 1960. In the Soviet era, it was recognized as a modernist construction, the brightest Estonian building. To the right of the stage is a 42-meter tower, which is used for fire during the Song Festival. When the fire does not burn, the tower becomes a lookout, from there you can see the whole city of Tallinn and the sea.
