Thath Dam

The Republic of Laos was born in the XIV century. Many of its cities store sights , characterizing national beliefs and telling about the history of the country. Among the oldest structures is the Buddhist Stupa That Dam, which is devoted to our article.

Gold Stupa

That Dam, or Black stupa was built, obviously, in the XV century. The facility is located in the town of Vientiane near the Patusay memorial. Today Thoth Dam in Laos is a high brick building, overgrown with moss. In its best years it looked completely different. Black Stupa covered pure gold, but the war with neighboring Siam in 1827 had sad consequences for the sights. The Thais plundered the shrine and tore off the gold that covered it from the stupa.

The legend of the holy serpent

The Black Stupa in Vientiane is shrouded in legends. The most interesting of them tells that the stupa That Dame was the entrance to the kingdom - the abode of the sacred celestial serpent Nag - located in the dungeon. Unfortunately, contemporaries will never be able to find out if the seven-headed dragon lived in a mortar, as nowadays Thath Dam is abandoned, and its doors are tightly closed.

How to get there?

Stupa Thath Dam rises in the heart of Vientiane . The best way to get to the place is walking. The journey begins with traffic on Ave Lane Xang Street. At the fork, take the Rue Bartholonie. The journey takes about half an hour.
