One of the most visited green areas in Tokyo is the city park Shinjuku-geen. The pearl of the Meiji-era garden art is called this magnificent park.

Historical reference

This city park was laid in 1906. Then the site where Shinjuku-Gein is now located belonged to the imperial family and was closed to visit. During the Second World War, the park was almost completely destroyed. Several years have gone to restore it, and by the middle of the twentieth century, the lands were granted to Tokugawa by his vassal and became available to the general public. Since then, Shinjuku-geen has become a favorite vacation spot for urban residents.

Features of the park zone

The area of ​​the imperial park of Shinjuku-geen covers 58.3 hectares, and its circumference is 3.5 km. The territory of the park is actually divided into three landscape areas, decorated in classical Japanese, landscape English and regular French styles. The most popular is the Japanese garden, which houses a tea house, and its special atmosphere and picturesque views set the visitors to a tea ceremony. In addition to the unique house, there is a wooden villa built at the end of the 20th century.

Natural diversity

The territory of the Imperial Park impresses visitors with a rich flora. Here grows more than 20 thousand different trees. And about one and a half thousand of them are the most different kinds of sakura. In early spring, during the blooming of the cherry blossom, Shinjuku-geene shimmers with pink, white and crimson flowers. It was during this period, by khans, in the park that most tourists and townspeople. In addition, in the Botanical Gardens of Shinjuku-Gein collected a real collection of tropical plants.
