Ruach

In the heart of Tanzania , on the shore of the picturesque African river Ruaha, is the eponymous reserve. It has huge dimensions - more than 10 thousand km, and belongs to the category of national parks . Ruach is one of the largest parks in all of Africa, it is the second largest after the famous Serengeti .

Flora and fauna of the park

In Ruaha, there is the largest elephant population in Africa (about 8,000 individuals), as well as many lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas and leopards. Large and small kudu, giant gazelle, impala, giraffes, warthogs, wild African dogs live in the park of Ruach in their natural conditions. In the waters of the river Ruaha, there are numerous crocodiles and 38 species of river fish. The total number of animals in the park is about 80 species, and birds - 370 species (these are white herons, rhino birds, kingfishers, etc.).

In addition to fauna, Ruach has a variety of flora - more than 1600 species of various plants, most of which are endemic, that is, grow only here.

Excursions and safaris in Ruach Park

For tourists traveling to Tanzania and wishing to admire the beauties of the Ruach National Park, the best time will be a "dry season" from mid-May to December. This time is suitable for observing large herbivores and predators living in the park. Males of kudu are interesting in June, when they have a breeding season. But from January to April in Ruakh come those who are interested in the flora of the park and birds. The only inconvenience for visitors to the park is torrential rains, the season of which in this part of Africa lasts just at this time.

Interestingly, in Ruach, a walking safari is allowed, accompanied by an armed conductor, which can be boasted only by a few Tanzanian parks. In addition to communicating with wildlife, the surrounding area is of interest, where the ancient ruins of the Stone Age - Iringa and Isimila - were preserved. And do not forget to buy souvenirs in memory of the trip to Tanzania : in Ruach you can buy national clothes, tingating pictures, ebony products, jewelry made of precious metals and sapphires, local tea and coffee.
