Root celery - growing

Root celery is a biennial plant that reaches 40 cm wide and 30 cm high. This is a very useful vegetable culture, which has a large number of useful elements and at the same time is a wonderful assistant to losing weight .

In this article, we will tell you about the cultivation of root celery, as well as all the rules for caring for it.

Planting and caring for root celery

In order to grow a good harvest, you need to know how to care for the root celery, and what rules must be adhered to:

  1. Temperature and light. Root celery gives a good harvest in a temperate climate. Easily tolerates a drop in temperatures, even up to 10 ° C, however, in this case it must be covered with straw. If the soil is sufficiently moist, it can easily grow in the shade.
  2. The soil. For the cultivation of root celery, soil with a low nitrogen content is needed.
  3. Watering. Celery loves moisture very much, therefore it is necessary to water it very abundantly, especially during a strong heat and drought.
  4. Top dressing. During the vegetation period, you can feed the plant, but remember, in no case should you fertilize the root celery with manure, because he does not like it.
  5. Pruning. When summer comes to an end, it is necessary to remove a pair of upper leaves. This will speed up the formation of the bulb.
  6. Wintering . In order for the plant to survive freezing, it is necessary to cover the root celery with a thick layer of straw (not less than 30 cm of thickness).

Celery root sowing

Sowing should be done in February. For seeding, it is necessary to prepare the soil. For this it is necessary to take peat, turf ground, humus and sand in the proportions 6: 2: 2: 1. However, this is not all - add 20 g of urea and 200 ml of ash ash to the bucket of finished soil.

So, the soil is ready. Now it is necessary to pour very abundantly with water. After this, you need to wait until the water is absorbed and only after that sprinkle the seeds. Pay attention, seeds do not need to be buried with earth.

After all this, the box with seeds sown should be covered with polyethylene and stored at room temperature. Until the first sprouts come up, periodically sprinkle seeds with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Water for irrigation should be taken only stale.

For the entire time of growing seedlings, one must once again pour the soil with trichodermine. It will help future plants to resist various diseases. When the seedlings appeared, it is necessary to lower the temperature to 14 ° C for a couple of days. After the first few real leaves appear, the seedlings must be cut so that the distance between them is not less than 5 cm, or to transplant the root celery by the pots.

Planting and timing of planting of root celery

If in the middle of May, when it is necessary to plant root celery, the weather is very hot, then landing should be moved to the evening, when the sun descends beyond the horizon. For each seedling, dig a hole, on the bottom of which you need to fill in the mold of humus and ash.

Pay attention to the depth of the hole - it should not be very deep, otherwise during ripening the celery root will have an unattractive presentation. Therefore, the depth of the hole should be such that the lower petioles of the leaves are above the ground.

For good growth, you must adhere to the scheme of planting root celery. Planting is necessary so that in the row the distance to neighboring plants is 10 cm, and between rows of 40 cm. You can also plant celery and between tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage and potatoes.
