Pecan Seria Mosque


In the small town of Brunei under the name of the series is one of the most famous mosques in the country. It is not as spectacular and majestic as the Muslim capital's temple named after Omar Ali Saifuddin , named after the sultan, but, undoubtedly, worthy of attention. This is the Pecan Seria Mosque. Adherents of the Islamic religion will be able to visit the services held here, and tourists of another faith will appreciate the architectural value of the ancient structure.

History and architecture of the Pekan mosque

A small town The series, located in the south-west of Brunei, did not even celebrate its 100th birthday, but is known for being the oldest mosque in the country. Earlier in this place there was a small settlement, but after the discovery of rich oil deposits the settlement soon grew to the level of the city. At the same time, the temple that stood here for many centuries was called the Pekan Series, which literally translates from the Malay language as "the city mosque of Seria."

Given that the construction of this structure was carried out at a time when Brunei was not yet a powerful oil power, compared to other, more recent mosques, Pekan Series looks quite modest. The architecture is in the traditional Muslim style, there are gilded domes, and slender minarets, and beautiful vaulted arches.

How to get there?

The distance between the capital of Brunei and the city of Seria is about 100 km. From Bandar Seri Begawan Airport, go to Lebuhraya Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, then move to Lebuhraya Tungku. After this, there is a section of the road along the regional highways:

Pekan Seria Mosque is located in the city center, near the coast and the stadium, at the intersection of two streets: Jalan Lorong Satu Barat and Jalan Bunga Melor. Nearby there is a bus stop, many cafes and restaurants.
