Microwave works, but does not heat

Today it is already difficult to find a person unfamiliar with the work of the microwave oven , which is used for heating or cooking . Due to the fact that it, which has become so necessary, is used daily, and sometimes is not used at all, the microwave oven will have problems: it does not heat food, it will not spin a plate or the light will not burn. Sometimes it even happens that there is light, the plate turns, a fan and a grill work, but the microwave does not heat food placed inside.

In this article, we will discuss in detail the reasons why a microwave oven does not heat food and what to do about it.

Possible malfunctions of the microwave oven

Before you do microwave repair by yourself or employ specialists, you should determine which fault:

  1. Voltage in the network is less than 220 volts.
  2. Inverter microwave ovens - inverter failure.
  3. Violation in control circuit: timer or control unit.
  4. Malfunction in the power circuit, consisting of a fuse, a high-voltage diode, a capacitor, a magnetron and a high-voltage transformer.

The causes of the breakage of the microwave:

  1. The metal object is inside.
  2. The heating of prohibited products (eg, raw eggs).
  3. Natural wear of parts.
  4. The void in the heating chamber, which leads to the occurrence of a fire.

Determining the breakdown of the microwave and what to do about it?

To find out the voltage in your outlet, where the microwave is connected, you can use a voltmeter, and if it showed that the voltage is really less than the required 220 volts, you need to install an uninterruptible power supply.

If the voltage is normal, then the microwave really broke down, and the reason why it does not heat, you should look inside it - in the power circuit:

  1. Fuse - according to the scheme of the device attached to the microwave, we find fuses, if they turn black or the filament is broken, just replace them with the same working ones.
  2. Condenser - if it breaks, there is a hum or buzz when it is turned on, the capacitor is in good condition checked by an ohmmeter (if the arrow is deflected - defective, does not deviate - is punched). If a malfunction is detected, it must be replaced with a new one, but it must be taken into account that before testing and replacing the condenser, it must be discharged.
  3. High-voltage diode or doubler - an indication of the presence of problems in its operation is the fuse blown and the appearance of a strong buzz when turning on, since it is very difficult to check it, it is better to replace it with a new one at once.
  4. Magnetron - with its malfunction, you can also hear hum and buzz, and when you open it - you can see cracks and cind on it. If visually it is not determined its capacity, then using an ohmmeter, check the through capacitor (it should not ring with the body of the magnetron itself) and the filament. Having found the problem - we fix it or replace the entire magnetron with a similar one or similar in the basic design parameters.

If your microwave oven starts to break down almost immediately after that, as it was bought, it means, most likely, it is made of substandard or defective components. This technique is not recommended to "open", as this breaks the seal and the warranty for it is canceled, but just need to be taken back to the store and changed to another.

Whatever the breakdown, it should be remembered that the microwave is one of the most dangerous household appliances and even not included in the network can hit a person with an electric shock. Therefore, if you do not have the necessary knowledge of electronics, instead of starting to repair the microwave oven yourself, it's best to take it to a specialized workshop.
