Mauritius - Airport

If the theater starts with a hanger, then the country for the tourist and any of its guests is from the airport. The airport of Mauritius is located at a distance of 46 km from the capital of the state of Port Louis next to the city of Maeburg .

This is the only international airport on the island. It bears the name of Sir Sivusagur Ramgoolam, the first prime minister (1900-1985), who is considered the father of the nation in Mauritius and is greatly esteemed.

Airport History

Previously, this airport was called Plaisance (Plaisance) at its location (the area of the city of Plaisance in the southeast of the island). It was opened for military needs during the Second World War. It was built by the British. As a commercial airport, it has been operating since 1946.

In 1987, a new (second terminal B) airport was opened in Mauritius. It was required because of the increased movement to and from the archipelago. This terminal and the airport as a whole have already received the name Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and the international class.

In 1999, Mauritius Airport experienced an expansion that cost $ 20 million. The two-story building was significantly modernized. Arrival and departure are carried out on different floors: tourists depart from the second, and arrive at the first. Here, too, there are shops and cafes, VIP halls, car rental , small duty free, ATMs and other standard services. There is a large outdoor parking near the airport building. This phase did not become final in the development of Mauritius Airport. Two years ago, a new terminal (D) was opened here, and the entire airport was repaired.

It is interesting that the new terminal uses original LED lighting, the supply of luminaires for which the Russian company has realized.

As the current Prime Minister Navinkandra Rangulam noted, the construction of this terminal has become the most important project in the state in recent years, since this new terminal is the site for the further development of the country. The terminal's area is 57,000 square meters, its construction cost 300 million dollars. The pride of the terminal is the ability to take a plane class A380.
