Lombok Airport

In October 2011, a new international airport opened on the Indonesian island of Lombok . It is located in the south of the island, near the town of Praia and 40 km from the capital of the island of Lombok, the city of Mataram. Today, Lombok Airport receives aircraft from other cities in Indonesia (in particular, from Jakarta , Jogjakarta , Makassar, Surabaya , Kupang , Denpasar ), as well as international flights from Malaysia , Singapore .

Basic information

Earlier the island operated another airport , Selaparang. However, when the question arose about the need for its expansion, it turned out that the geographical position makes this impossible - the hills surrounding the airport are interfering.

Then it was decided to build a new airport, especially since the Indonesian government actively promoted Lombok and the neighboring island, Sumbawa , as a new tourist destination. Construction was conducted from 2005 to 2011. On October 20, 2011, the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, solemnly opened a new airport. The first flight was adopted even earlier, on October 1 of the same year. It was a plane Boeing 737-800NG airline Garuda Indonesia.

Airport Infrastructure

Passengers serve one terminal. It has waiting rooms, a tour desk, currency exchange offices, bank branches, several duty-free shops, car rental outlets, an apartment office, a cafe. Parking is located next to the terminal building.

Lombok Airport has one runway. Its dimensions allow to take even wide-body aircraft of the Airbus A330 and Boeing 767 type.

How to get to Lombok airport?

The airport is quite easy to get from almost any hotel in the island, as well as from neighboring islands:

  1. By bus. From bus station Mataram's (Mataram's Mandalika Bus Terminal) bus to the airport leaves every hour. The trip costs slightly more than $ 1.5. A regular bus runs from the airport and to the Sengiji resort (the fare is about $ 2.7).
  2. By taxi. A taxi ride will cost 5-6 times more than a bus. There are official carriers such as Bluebird taxi, Airport Taksi and Express taxi, and it's best to use their services. The cost of the trip is not stipulated in advance, and there is no point in agreeing to a fixed amount, since all official taxis are equipped with taximeters. If you leave the airport, you will have to pay an additional fee (about $ 2); after his payment a coupon is issued, with which one can already go to the taxi stand.
  3. By boat or ferry. From Bali to the island of Lombok can be reached by ferry - to the pier of Lembar, where already by taxi tourists go to the airport. You can go and on a speed boat, but such a trip will not be cheaper than the cost of air travel.
