Xamyl or Xamyl is the southernmost Albanian resort town that forms part of the Butrint national reserve. Is located in the Ksamil district of Saranda, just 10 kilometers from the city of the same name.
The resort was founded relatively recently, in the middle of the last century, but despite this, it is not inferior in popularity to other tourist places of Albania , but, on the contrary, is one of the most visited cities in the country. One of the main shortcomings of this tourist town is its distance from the capital of Albania - Tirana, in which the international airport is located. In this regard, the transport availability of Xylam leaves much to be desired. To get to the resort after landing in the capital it is necessary to overcome about 250 kilometers, which is about 5 hours spent on the way.

Large hotels and Albania hotels are best booked in Saranda, a larger resort town, which is just a few minutes drive from Xamyl. The infrastructure of Saranda is more developed, and you can get to the cleanest beaches of Ksamil by a comfortable shuttle bus.

They have a variety of restaurants in which tourists can taste local specialties - salads , soups - and, of course, fresh seafood, because the cuisine here is a classic Mediterranean. You can swim to the islands by swimming or on a leased water transport. At the height of the season, launches are organized, which transfer tourists to the islands for free.
In your spare time from swimming you can go on an excursion to the ancient town of Butrint and walk along its ruins. It is located very close to Saranda. Ruins of Butrint town are part of the national park with the same name and are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Butrint was founded as a colony of ancient Greeks, then belonged to Ancient Rome and the Byzantine Empire. After some time he fell under the occupation of the Venetians, and then, in the late Middle Ages, was finally abandoned. Archaeological excavations were started in the early twentieth century. In the process, theaters, thermae and walls of other structures were found, preserved untouched until our times. Now Butrint restored and restored to its original size.
Returning from Saranda to Xamyl, you can visit another important attraction - the monastery of St. George. It is located on the mountain and there is no direct access to it by car. Therefore, to get to the monastery you need to go uphill on foot. Restoration of the monastery was held recently, so the monastery is now in excellent condition.
