How to sew a denim bag?
The first thing you need to decide on, from what will be created a masterpiece. You can make jeans bags with your own hands from old wiped pants or buy a cut of fabric in the store. Both options are acceptable. The shape of the bag can be classic rectangular, square or conical. You can sew a large bag or a backpack, it's interesting to see a small narrow model. Think in advance what shape and length of the handle you want. Bags of denim can be decorated with beads and beads or leather flaps with metal inserts. The simpler the shape of the bag, the easier the pattern. For beginners in this matter, it is preferable to abandon a too complicated and intricate form, to prefer a simple square or rectangle. To cut a fabric necessarily exactly on a pattern, do not forget to make allowances on seams.
If there is a desire to decorate the bag with embroidery, pieces of leather or other decorative elements, it should be done before joining all the details. On the finished product it is much more difficult to sew the application evenly and beautifully. Do not forget that all cuts of fabric and flaps before starting work should be put in order, ironed.

Denim handbags by their own hands: a step-by-step master class
So, when there are absolutely no ideas for tailoring, you can always start with the simplest, and already in the process of work everything will come. From an old denim skirt or jeans you can sew a great accessory. Preferably, everything is stitched on a typewriter, but none of the manual work was canceled either.
To make a handbag we need: a cut of cotton fabric 50x100 cm for lining and 2 cut of denim fabric 36x40 cm, you can use leggings from bored jeans, embroidering them with Sashiko embroidery (Sashiko - original Japanese embroidery, representing the unusual and curly weaves of stitches made by suture "forward the needle").
- We put our jeans pieces face-to-face with each other and we spread them along the sides.
- Get this stocking.
- The front part of the bag is not needed now, we'll take care of it while lining it. We cut out 2 pieces, dimensions 36x45 cm, from the cotton fabric. First, we sew a pocket to the lining. To do this, we cut out a rectangle of arbitrary size.
- To make the upper part of the pocket look pretty, double-fold the edge of our rectangle and stitch it with a straight stitch. Then we smooth the other edges of the pocket inwards.
- Corners pruned. We put the pocket to the lining, fix it with pins and sew (our fabric is very mottled, so for clarity we had to allocate the contour of the pocket with what was near at hand).
- The result of our efforts:
- Our model of the bag does not assume the presence of lightning or buttons, so it is not out of place to provide the following mechanism: inside the bag we add a string with a carbine, to which then you can attach a purse, a cosmetic bag or keys. Now do not hesitate - nothing will be lost in your bag. We make a string from a small piece of cloth. Curl 3 times, fix the line "zigzag", then bend the edge with the ringlet and again fix the "zigzag".
- A lanyard with a carbine is ready.
- Now put the two parts of the lining face to face and spend it on both sides, not forgetting to insert a lace into one of the seams. Again it will be a stocking, but already with a pocket and a carbine.
- It's time to start making comfortable handles. Believe me, this is quite easy! From cotton, we will cut 2 rectangles of the necessary length and width, in our case it is 45x10cm. Fold as in the photo and smooth.
- To get comfortable and strong handles, we need to take a special thick cord or a regular clothesline. The ends of the rope gently fuse with a cigarette lighter. Cut the rope about 2/3 of the entire length of the handle. We put the rope in the middle of the strip and sew the handle close to the edge. For convenience, you can change the usual foot on the sewing machine to the foot for sewing zippers. Since the length of the rope is shorter than our handle, we do not start sewing from the very edge, but from the place where the rope starts. The edges of the handles are simply folded.
- We get here such comfortable handles.
- Before assembling the bag, we will check all the details again. The width of the front side of the bag and the width of the lining should be the same. The jeans part is turned out on the wrong side, the lining is turned on the face.
- We put the lining in the jeans stocking. The denim and lining parts of the bag lie face to face. Mark the place of attachment of handles. Fix the handles with pins.
- To make it easier for us to sew the handles, we did not tighten them with the cord for the full length. Another tip: for aesthetics and convenience, the handle inside should be placed round (without a seam) side to the denim.
- Sew the halves of the bag in a circle. The seam needs to be evaporated. Carefully fold the edge of the lining over the denim part so that it can be seen. We fix the line in "Split", that is, between the tissues.
- Now we pass to the bottom of the bag. We put the bag in half, but not at the seams, but in the middle. We determine the width of the bottom arbitrarily.
- Stitching, excess cut. We check the symmetry.
- The bottom is soft, so it needs to be strengthened. For this, it is best to use a thin plastic, but you can also take the cardboard, although it is unlikely that he will not survive at least one wash. We cut out of plastic a rectangle with the same size as the bottom of our bag.
- Since it is difficult to sew plastic to the fabric, sew the plastic case from a light fabric, insert it inside and already this cover is sewn to the corners of the bottom of the bag.
- The bag is almost ready, it remains to finish the lining. The bottom of the lining is sewn in the same way as the bottom of the jeans. But do not forget that all the seams should be hidden. To do this, we first turn out one corner, sew half of the bottom, leave a hole for eversion. Then we sew the second corner, the remaining hole is sewn with a hidden seam.
- We fill the lining inside the bag and fix it with two stitches in the corners.
